In town for the OKC Memorial Marathon? Here's 3 things to do, see before or after the race

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon races are kicking off this weekend with several road closures and weather warnings, but your marathon weekend doesn't have to be covered in a raincloud. Whether you're cheering on someone in the race, looking for a post-race snack, or need to release your mind after the race, the Marathon's footprint gives lots of chances to enjoy some of Oklahoma City. Here are some ways to enjoy the marathon regardless of whether you're running in it or on the sidelines. The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is a way to commemorate the victims of the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Building. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the bombing. Whether you're visiting the city or you're a resident, the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is a great reminder of why the race continues each year. All racers receive one free admission to the museum on Saturday and Sunday. Several other museums are along the marathon lines, so whether you're sitting at mile one next door to the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame or mile 25 near the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, you're not far from a museum downtown. But suppose you want to leave the marathon path for an experience further away. In that case, the American Banjo Museum, the Contemporary Arts Center, or the First Americans Museum are also great ways to explore the city. Getting hungry, waiting for your friend or family member to run past your checkpoint? Because of the 26-mile stretch, several options are available to eat on Marathon day, whether you're looking for a hearty meal or a quick bite. Vegetarian options can be found at The Red Cup on N Classen, but if you want to enjoy Oklahoma City's diverse food market, run to Thai Kitchen on Dean A McGee or Tayta Latin Cuisine on Hudson. At the festival, vendors and artists will be displaying their work and creativity on stages and in booths. The event is heralded as one of the top 25 fine arts festivals in the nation. Whether you're looking for new art to put up, want to clear your mind with a walk through the park, or need a quick bite from the best places to eat at the Festival, there's much to enjoy at the Festival of the Arts. This year marks the 59th annual Festival, which is entirely hosted by Arts Council OKC, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit. The four-day festival is an entirely cashless event. OKC Memorial Marathon runners may be racing in rain: See weather forecast, tips to stay dry

This weekend marks another year for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, but many racers on Saturday and Sunday may find themselves running in the rain. Temperatures on Saturday, April 26, are forecast to stay in the 60s, with the peak at 69 degrees at 6 p.m. However on Sunday, April 27, temperatures will range between 61 degrees and 78 degrees, with the peak at 4 p.m. Advertisement Rain is expected on both days. The National Weather Service forecasts at most a 90% chance on Saturday and up to a 70% chance on Sunday. AccuWeather further details that Saturday will bear the brunt of the rain, with four hours of rain expected, followed by no more than two hours on Sunday. The NWS further predicts that Oklahoma City will not see more than a quarter inch at a time on Saturday, with most coming before noon. Sunday's rain outlook appears to have no more than a tenth of an inch. Tips for running marathons in the rain Running in the rain can be difficult for anyone, especially if you haven't prepared accordingly. Here are a couple of tips for completing a marathon, 5K, or any race in the rain. Rain poncho and maybe a hat Consider grabbing a plastic rain poncho to not only protect your body from the rain, but it may help maintain some warmth, which you may need if you're running in 60-degree weather. Advertisement Wearing a hat or head cover can block some of the rain from hitting your face, which can break your focus or become another battle to fix. Bring a race-day bag that stays dry Marathoners say that in the rain, you could need anything from a fresh pair of socks to hand warmers. Having a small bag, such as a fanny pack or something that can hold all your warm items and stay dry, can be essential for completing a marathon. Avoid cotton and loose clothes Cotton material absorbs water, and as a result, it often becomes heavier. Instead, you may want to consider clothes that are form-fitting and moisture-wicking to avoid having your clothes tracking. When are roads going to be closed for the marathon? Road closures depend on the race. The April 26 5K will have some road closures from 5 to 6:50 a.m. and is expected to reopen by 9:05 a.m. On April 27, you can expect closures starting at 4:30 for the half, quarter and full marathons.
