Inside Inter Miami: Messi at the Super Bowl and continue to take care of business

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami continue to take care of business on the pitch throughout this first preseason under new coach Javier Mascherano. They're 4-0. And they manage to find time to have some fun as the day after a 5-0 victory over Olimpia in Honduras, Messi, Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets were spotted at the Super Bowl. The night before, Messi scored and had two assists in the victory. We review the main differences so far under Mascherano compared to last year under Tata Martino. According to a source, our co-host Michelle Kaufman reports that Messi will play on Friday in Tampa vs. Orlando City. Just how much will he be on the field? Kaufman has injury updates on Alba and Drake Callender injuries as well as David Ruiz's leg issue. We also show you the team's new jersey with pink vertical stripes…almost exactly like Argentina. Kaufman also sits down with new players - Tadeo Allende, Gonzalo Lujan, Telasco Segovia, and Rocco Rios Novo during a recent media session. And we wrap it up by looking ahead to what's next - a matchup in the Concacaf Champions Cup at Kansas City on Tuesday and the MLS opener next Saturday afternoon vs. NYCFC. ▪ Remember, you can watch this show on YouTube and on our site at The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple podcasts, and most other platforms where you listen to your pods. Lionel Messi scores, gets two assists as Inter Miami beats Olimpia 5-0 in Honduras

The Inter Miami team bus was wrapped in pink and advertised Saturday night's preseason game against Honduran club Olimpia as 'El Evento Del Siglo' (The Event of the Century). Fans lined the streets of San Pedro Sula to get a glimpse of Lionel Messi and his teammates as they pulled into their hotel and again as the team headed to the stadium. Honduran television crews had been broadcasting live at Estadio Olimpico since Friday night. Street vendors sold every imaginable Messi souvenir, including bobble heads. A 7.6 magnitude earthquake was registered north of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea less than two hours before kickoff, but it did not affect the game. Messi gave the crowd a lasting memory, scoring a goal and delivering two assists to lead Miami to a 5-0 victory. The Argentine captain played 63 minutes and was replaced by 17-year-old Santi Morales. The other Inter Miami goals were scored by Fede Redondo, Noah Allen, Luis Suarez, and Ryan Sailor, who came off the bench in the 71st minute. 'Lots of goals [from the team] and a clean sheet, which was really important,' said defender Ian Fray, who started and played 60 minutes. 'That's one of our goals. We know we can score, but we have to keep clean sheets. Every practice we feel more confident. We're ready to go.' It was the third win during Inter Miami's Americas Tour, following victories against Universitario in Peru and San Miguelito in Panama. The team is undefeated through four preseason games under new coach Javier Mascherano. Messi scored in the 27th minute and assisted on Redondo's goal in the 44th minute and Allen's goal in first half added time. Miami led 3-0 at halftime. Luis Suarez, who assisted on Messi's goal, scored his first goal the preseason in the 54th minute with an assist from Benja Cremaschi. Sailor's goal came off a pass from Leo Afonso. Inter Miami was missing left back Jordi Alba, who was injured and did not travel. Alba suffered an unspecified injury during the previous game in Panama last weekend, per a team spokesperson. He did not participate in the two open media training sessions during the week. The Miami starters were: Oscar Ustari, David Martinez, Ian Fray, Allen, Marcelo Weigandt, Sergio Busquets, Redondo, David Ruiz, Suarez, Tadeo Allende, and Messi. 'It was great to be out there in front of the fans, being back from injury is really nice and getting 60 minutes under my belt,' said Fray, who has overcome four knee injuries. It was a special game for Ruiz, a Honduran American who was celebrating his 21st birthday on Saturday and playing on his parents' home soil. Ruiz grew up in Little Havana, where his mother, Alba, owns and runs a Honduran restaurant. The entire Ruiz family traveled to the game. Ruiz was greeted at the hotel with a birthday cake. Players who came off the bench included Rocco Rios Novo, Sailor, Fafa Picault, Yannick Bright, Tyler Hall, Julian Gressel, Cremaschi, Robert Taylor, Afonso, Morales, and Gonzalo Lujan, who made his Inter Miami debut. The team was scheduled to fly back to Fort Lauderdale Saturday night and there were reports Messi would attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday, which would make sense he has endorsement deals with Michelob Ultra and Lay's potato chips. Inter Miami concludes its preseason on Friday night in Tampa against Orlando City. The team kicks off the Concacaf Champions Cup on Feb. 18 on the road against Sporting Kansas City and opens the MLS season Feb. 22 at home against New York City FC at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for the season opener are available through TicketMaster.

Messi, Inter Miami continue preseason Saturday against Olimpia in Honduras, how to watch

Lionel Messi is back in action on Saturday night as Inter Miami makes a stop in Honduras for its preseason tour. Inter Miami will face Honduran giants Club Olimpia Deportivo, but how much will Messi play in Honduras? Here's what Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano must consider as the club continues to ramp up before the 2025 MLS season: Saturday's game is the first of five matches Inter Miami will play in the next three weeks, with the next four matches separated by four days or less. While Messi has played well in Inter Miami's first three preseason matches, his playing time will be monitored to ensure he's healthy as the club begins the MLS season and will begin the Concacaf Champions Cup tournament later this month. 'Nobody knows their body better than Leo. We will manage his minutes based on how he feels,' Mascherano said of Messi earlier this week. How to watch Inter Miami vs. Olimpia live stream? The match begins at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. Honduras, 9 p.m. in Argentina). It will be played at Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Here's how you can watch it: U.S. and Canada: Honduras Local Broadcast: TELEVICENTRO Rest of World: Inter Miami wants to monitor Messi's playing time Messi scored a header and played 66 minutes in the preseason opener against Mexican champions Club America in Las Vegas on Jan. 18. He played 72 minutes against Universitario in Peru on Jan. 29. He was the catalyst behind two goals in 76 minutes against San Miguelito in Panama City last Sunday. 'He has been playing more minutes each game, and has finished the three games well,' Mascherano said of Messi. Mascherano added 'we must pay attention' to Messi's playing time due to the upcoming schedule. Inter Miami's last preseason game is Feb. 14 against MLS rival Orlando City at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. Inter Miami will play the first leg of its Concacaf Champions Cup first-round matchup on the road against Sporting Kansas City on Feb. 18. Inter Miami will play it MLS season opener at home against New York City FC on Feb. 22. And the second leg of Inter Miami's Concacaf Champions Cup first round matchup on Feb. 25. 'We know he feels good on the field, it is where he wants to be,' Mascherano said of Messi. 'So, we will do everything we can to let him play without taking any risks.'
