Lightning F Oliver Bjorkstrand out for series vs. Panthers
April 19 - Tampa Bay Lightning forward Oliver Bjorkstrand will not play in the team's Eastern Conference first-round series against the Florida Panthers, head coach Jon Cooper announced on Saturday. Bjorkstrand is considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury that he sustained the injury during Tampa Bay's 4-3 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings on April 11. Bjorkstrand, 30, has nine points (five goals, four assists) in 18 games with the Lightning since the club acquired him from the Seattle Kraken prior to the NHL trade deadline. He recorded 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) in 61 games with the Kraken in 2024-25. A third-round pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2013 NHL Draft, Bjorkstrand has totaled 384 points (172 goals, 212 assists) in 624 career games with the Blue Jackets, Kraken and Lightning.

Newcomer Oliver Bjorkstrand notches winner for Lightning in high-scoring thriller vs. Sabres
March 7 - Newcomer Oliver Bjorkstrand had the go-ahead goal in the third period of his Tampa Bay debut as the Lightning rallied past the visiting Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night for their 11th win in 13 games. Acquired from the Seattle Kraken along with Yanni Gourde on Wednesday, Bjorkstrand potted a loose puck for the game-winner at 1:40 to break a 5-all tie. The Lightning killed a six-on-three Buffalo power play in the final 17 seconds to hang on for the victory. Jake Guentzel notched his second Lightning hat trick, while Nick Paul and Darren Raddysh had a goal and an assist apiece. Brandon Hagel and Nikita Kucherov had two helpers apiece, while goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy posted 28 saves. For the Eastern Conference-worst Sabres, Rasmus Dahlin and JJ Peterka both had a goal and an assist. Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs and Tage Thompson all scored, while Zach Benson and Ryan McLeod had two assists each. Goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 20 shots. The Atlantic Division clubs tallied three times in a 52-second span of a five-goal first period. Paul scored when his pass was clipped by Buffalo's Connor Clifton and put in own-goal style at 5:01, but Dahlin matched that by sending a tally in from the left circle 16 seconds later. Raddysh put the Lightning ahead again with a quirky marker when his shot hit the stick of the Sabres' Bowen Byram, went airborne and Luukkonen headed it straight up and over into the goal. However, Tampa Bay's Emil Lilleberg fanned on a shot attempt and fell in the Lightning offensive end. Tuch then led a two-on-one rush and wristed home another tying goal at 8:20. The frame's final goal for Buffalo's first lead was at 17:09 by Krebs, who snapped a 23-match goalless streak with his first tally since Dec. 29. Guentzel chipped in a pass from Erik Cernak 58 seconds into the second period for a 3-all tie, but Thompson flipped in his 31st goal at 9:35 on Buffalo's second power play for a 4-3 edge. Peterka's steal and 19th goal gave Buffalo a two-goal lead at 12:40, but Guentzel backhanded his second at 17:43 to cut it to 5-4. He tied it on a power-play goal near the end of the second five-goal period.

Kraken Recall Four Players From The AHL
The Seattle Kraken have recalled Ben Meyers, Jacob Melanson, Cale Fleury and Tye Kartye from the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Meyers has been up and down between the NHL and AHL all season long. In the NHL, the 26-year-old has yet to record a point but in the AHL, he's potted 19 goals and 40 points in 45 games, ranking second among all Firebirds players. The #SeaKraken have recalled forwards Ben Meyers and Jacob Melanson from the Coachella Valley @Firebirds. — Seattle Kraken PR (@SeattleKrakenPR) March 5, 2025 Melanson has dealt with injuries this season, skating in just 27 games. In those games, the 21-year-old has had no problems finding ways to be effective. He uses his 6'1, 205 lbs frame to be effective on the forecheck and has chipped in seven goals and 10 points. The 2021 fifth-round pick (131st overall) has not yet made his NHL debut but is trending in the right direction. When the deal between the Kraken and Lightning that saw Oliver Bjorkstrand and Yanni Gourde exit the franchise, it opened up roster spots for young players like Melanson to potentially get their chance to play an NHL game. Kraken Trade Yanni Gourde And Oliver Bjorkstrand To Lightning For Two First Round Picks The Seattle Kraken have traded forwards Yanni Gourde, Oliver Bjorkstrand and a fifth-round pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for two first-round picks, a second-round pick and forward Michael Eyssimont. Fleury, like Meyers, has spent most of his season moving up and down between the NHL and AHL. He was named to the AHL All-Star game but could not attend because he was up with the Kraken. Participating in seven NHL games has seen Fleury record one assist. With the Firebirds, the 26-year-old has scored six goals and 24 points in 36 games, playing as the team's No. 1 defenseman. Kartye's season has not panned out the way he and the organization were hoping for. In 49 games, he's scored just four goals and seven points, well off his rookie season pace. He was recently sent to the Firebirds on a conditioning loan which saw him record two goals and four points in three games. The brief stint will hopefully help him regain his confidence and become an effective player in the Kraken's bottom six once again. With Gourde already gone and the inevitability of Brandon Tanev being moved, Kartye will be expected to fill in the role of a physical and strong forechecking forward that both of those players were.
