Olney Elks Lodge hosts annual Easter Egg Hunt this weekend
OLNEY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Olney Elks Lodge hosted their annual Easter Egg Hunt at Olney City Park this past weekend.
Each year, Elk's members and volunteers stuff over 10,000 eggs with candy, coins, and prize coupons for all to enjoy. This joyful spring event has been a tradition for decades in Richland County.
'We are truly blessed to be part of such a generous and caring community,' said Co-Chair of the Easter Egg Hunt Committee Sissy Colwell. 'These events would not be possible without the continued support of our sponsors, volunteers, and partners.'
Families gathered to join in on the fun and enjoy a free lunch. Plus, prizes such as bicycles, and gift cards were handed out to raffle winners for each age group. Of course, the Easter bunny made an appearance.
In addition to the annual Easter egg hunt, the Olney Elks Lodge #926 also expanded the event into not just one, but two egg hunts taking place this weekend.
The first egg hunt being open to the public. The second egg hunt was for the 'egg-septional' friends, opened to those in the community with special needs and participants in Special Olympics in Richland County and surrounding counties.
The idea of the second Easter egg hunt was developed last year, with a goal to create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment and experience for all. With the support of Special Olympics, and CTF Illinois Community Day Services, the egg hunt was a major success this year.
It was a record-breaking year, as Lodge members and volunteers stuff over 13,000 eggs for the egg hunt and raised over $6,000 to cover expenses.
