Telangana marks Olympic Day Run 2025 with state-wide celebrations; honours National Games medalists
HYDERABAD: The Sports Authority of Telangana (SAT), in coordination with the Indian Olympic Association and Telangana Olympic Association, successfully organised the Olympic Day Run 2025 on Monday at LB Stadium. Unlike previous single-day runs, this year's event spanned six days across the state, each day aimed to promote Olympic values. For the first time, the run was flagged off from 14 different locations across the twin cities all converging at LB Stadium. The event saw participation from Arjuna and Dronacharya awardees, Olympians, eminent athletes, representatives of various sports associations, staff of the SAT, students and their parents. Fourteen Olympic torches, each named after a legendary Olympian from Telangana, were carried to the stadium. Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari, along with senior officials Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and SATG Chairperson Sivasena Reddy, were present on the occasion. Athletes who won 33 medals for the state at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand were felicitated with cash prizes worth `84 lakh.

Hyderabad: The 39th edition of the Olympic Day Run 2025 was successfully held on Monday, starting at Osmania University and concluding at LB Stadium in Hyderabad. The event saw enthusiastic participation from hundreds of students and sports enthusiasts who came together to celebrate the Olympic spirit and the values of fitness, determination, and unity. Prof V Balakista Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TGCHE), attended the event as the Chief Guest and stressed the need for students to balance sports and academics, encouraging active participation in physical activities to foster a healthier and more holistic future. He also expressed his vision of seeing students from Telangana win medals at the Olympic Games, highlighting the government's commitment to fostering a robust sports ecosystem in the state. The run was organized under the leadership of Dr J Babulal, Olympic Development Convener, whose unwavering efforts over the past five years have nurtured several promising athletes from Osmania University. His dedication continues to inspire young sportspeople to strive for excellence. The Olympic Day Run 2025 serves as a testament to Telangana's increasing focus on sports as a means of youth development and national pride. The Telangana State Council of Higher Education reaffirms its ongoing support for initiatives that promote holistic education and foster a culture of fitness and excellence.

Hyderabad, June 23 (UNI) The Olympic Day Run 2025 was conducted with grandeur and statewide enthusiasm under the aegis of the Sports Authority of Telangana, in coordination with the Indian Olympic Association and the Telangana Olympic Association. Unlike previous years' single-day format, this year marked a six-day celebration promoting the Olympic spirit with daily themes across Telangana. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Olympic Day Runs were flagged off from 14 different locations across the twin cities—an increase from the earlier 8 points—all converging at the LB Stadium Tennis Complex. Each Olympic torch was named after a legendary Olympian from Telangana, honouring their sporting legacy and inspiring youth participation. The event was graced by Minister for Sports and Youth Services Vakiti Srihari as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan (IAS), State Sports Advisor Jitender Reddy, Chairman of the Sports Authority Sivasena Reddy, and Vice Chairperson and MD Ms Soni Bala Devi, who also received the Olympic torches arriving from across the city. Athletes of all ages—including Arjuna and Dronacharya awardees, Olympians, para-athletes, international medalists, students, and sports enthusiasts—participated in the run. Among the distinguished athletes present were Double Olympian Manjeet, Arjuna awardees Neetha Dadwe and Anup Kumar Yama, Paralympian Deepthi Jeevanji, International Cricketer Trisha Gongidi, and athlete Nandini Agasara. Adding energy to the event were Zumba dance performances and cultural programs, celebrating this year's Olympic Day theme: 'Let's Move'. As part of the celebration, medal winners who represented Telangana in the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand were felicitated, receiving cash awards totaling Rs 84 lakh for winning 33 medals.
