"Govt is committed to develop Uttarakhand as Khel Bhumi": Uttarakhand CM Dhami
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 23 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday participated in the program organised at Parade Ground in Dehradun on the occasion of International Olympic Day. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also honoured the players who won medals at the international and national levels and also administered the oath of sportsmanship to the players. He said that this day is dedicated to the values of sportsmanship, unity and peace. Olympics are not just a competition, but a symbol of dedication, sadhana and national pride. Chief Minister Dhami said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extensive work has been done to promote sports in the country. India is now emerging as a winner, not just a participant in sports. In the 2023 Asian Games, India performed best with 107 medals, while 126 players from India qualified for the Olympics 2020, which shows the strength of the sports ecosystem in the country. He further said that the state government is committed to develop Uttarakhand as 'Khel Bhumi'. In the recently held 38th National Games, the players of Uttarakhand made the state proud by winning 103 medals. He added that work is being done rapidly towards the establishment of 23 sports academies, Sports University Haldwani and Women's Sports College Lohaghat in eight major cities of the state. The Chief Minister said that under the sports policy, the state government is running schemes like out of turn government jobs, sports allowance, and Uttarakhand Khel Ratna and Himalaya Khel Ratna awards to medal winning players. Four per cent sports quota has been implemented for players in state services. Incentive amount is being transferred through DBT to 3900 players under the Chief Minister's Udyaman Khiladi Unnayan Yojana and 2155 players under the Chief Minister's Incentive Scheme. Sports Minister Rekha Arya said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, many provisions have been made in the new sports policy, keeping in mind the facilities of the players. Sports infrastructure has developed rapidly in the state. Uttarakhand got the opportunity to host the 38th National Games, in which the players of Uttarakhand had a commendable performance. (ANI)

Mission Olympic Cell approves monthly pocket allowance of 25000 for Indian Senior men's, women's hockey teams
New Delhi [India], June 20 (ANI): The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) has, for the first time, approved a monthly pocket allowance of 25,000 for the Indian Senior men's and women's hockey teams at their 156th meeting on Thursday, according to a release from MYAS. Hockey India will submit the players' lists to the Sports Authority of India (SAI). A total of 80 players from both teams will be given a monthly pocket allowance, which will cost 20 lakhs every month. This is a part of the recent achievements of the men's team, winning Bronze at Paris Olympics, Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023. In recent fixtures, India's form has dipped a bit after six straight losses. The Indian men's hockey team will now take on their nemesis in modern hockey, Belgium. Belgium comes into the game tomorrow with a 6-3 win against Spain, after they lost 1-2 in the previous tie to the same team. They are currently placed third in the points table after the Netherlands and Australia, respectively. The Indian men's and women's teams will take on Belgium in a double-header on June 21 and 22. India has slipped to the 8th position in the current pool standings, and with two matches to go, the team will look to end their campaign with a consolation win. MOC in their previous meeting, inducted seven compound archers in the TOPS (Target Olympic Podium Scheme) Core group. The MOC took cognisance of the International Olympic Committee's recent decision to make compound archery part of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The 155th MOC was attended by Pullela Gopichand, Viren Rasquinha, Prashanti Singh, Kamlesh Mehta, MM Somaya, Siddharth Shanker of Reliance Foundation, among others. It is the first time since archery's re-introduction to the Olympic Games in 1972 that a new bow style has been added to the competition. The seven compound archers inducted directly into the TOPS Core group are Ojas Pravin Deotale, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Gopichand Swami, Abhishek Verma, Parneet Kaur, Priyansh, and Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar. Sports Ministry approves monthly allowance for Hockey players
New Delhi, Jun 20(UNI) Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has approved a monthly out of pocket allowance of Rs 25,000 for those Hockey players who are picked for the national camp, an official said on Friday. Altogether 40 male and 40 female players will be eligible for the allowance. These 80 players would comprise attendees at the national camps under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). The decision to this effect was taken at the 156th Mission Olympic Cell's monthly meeting held in the national capital on Thursday. This decision will further help Hockey players who have during the recent years brought laurels to the nation, Indian Men's team secured back to back Bronze medals at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Paris Olympics 2024. They also won the gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023. The lucrative Hockey India League(HIL) that was relaunched in 2024 after seven years also is a major boost to Indian Hockey and will go a long way in developing talent in the country. UNI RKM SSP
