Projects underway to enhance Muscat's green spaces
MUSCAT: Green areas in Muscat Governorate grew by over 30 per cent during 2024 in line with Muscat Municipality's strategy to 'humanise' urban environments through enhanced green spaces and inclusive planning, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, stated here on Wednesday. Addressing the 8th Oman Society for Human Resource Management (OSHRM) Conference currently underway in the city, highlighted ongoing efforts to support the urban transformation of the capital city. These initiatives are part of a broader push to improve liveability and environmental sustainability in the capital. Strategic cooperation with the private sector has been vital to this progress, with annual projects valued at RO 3–5 million being implemented jointly. Notably, the Chairman announced the successful completion of Oman's longest green walkway in Muscat, delivered in partnership with a leading private company. He also revealed that a major new walkway in Qurum, developed at a cost exceeding RO 10 million, is scheduled to open in mid-May. More than 20 urban enhancement projects are planned for the 2024–2025 period, including the revitalisation of older parks and the creation of new, value-driven public spaces. The Chairman also spoke about the municipality's investment in talent development, noting that youth now hold key positions, with nine women among the 28 department heads. Continuous training and qualification programmes are being offered to reinforce leadership capabilities within the organisation. Al Humaidi's remarks reinforced the Municipality's vision of building a greener, more inclusive Muscat, powered by innovation and collaborative leadership. The OSHRM Conference continues through April 16, drawing professionals from across Oman and the region to explore evolving leadership paradigms and sustainable development goals.
