H M the Sultan makes royal address in Amsterdam
Amsterdam, Netherlands – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik was the guest of honour at an official dinner hosted by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and Her Majesty Queen Máxima at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
Upon arrival, His Majesty the Sultan was received by the Dutch monarchs and greeted several distinguished guests attending the banquet. The occasion served as a celebration of the long-standing ties and deep-rooted friendship between the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
During the dinner, His Majesty the Sultan delivered a speech highlighting the historic and contemporary relations between the two nations. He expressed his appreciation for the Dutch hospitality and the mutual cooperation that has spanned centuries, dating back to the 17th century when Dutch merchants first established relations with Oman.
His Majesty noted that this legacy continues today through strategic partnerships such as the Suhar Port project, jointly managed by Oman's Asyad Group and the Port of Rotterdam. He described the port as a symbol of the nations' shared maritime heritage and a testament to innovation and collaboration.
His Majesty also emphasised the importance of Dutch expertise in clean energy and water management, citing the joint efforts in green hydrogen production and sustainable water solutions. He acknowledged the strong political, academic, and cultural ties that underpin the Omani-Dutch relationship and affirmed a shared commitment to justice, multilateralism, and the rule of law.
Calling for expanded cooperation to address global challenges, His Majesty stressed the need for decisive action in support of international law and global security.
Concluding his speech, the Sultan expressed his sincere appreciation for the enduring friendship between Oman and the Netherlands and extended an invitation for Their Majesties to visit Muscat.
King Willem-Alexander, in his address, welcomed His Majesty the Sultan and the accompanying delegation, reiterating the Netherlands' dedication to expanding areas of partnership and investment with Oman. He noted that such efforts would contribute to economic growth in both countries across multiple sectors.
The dinner was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying His Majesty the Sultan, along with senior Dutch officials.
