Oman-India business meeting explores investment options

Muscat – The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), in collaboration with the Indian Economic Trade Organisation, hosted the Omani-Indian Businessmen's meeting on Tuesday, focusing on strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two nations. Business leaders from both the countries exchanged expertise and explored investment opportunities in key sectors, including renewable energy, oil and gas, fisheries and aquaculture, industry, trade, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and human resources. The event aimed to foster strategic partnerships that drive sustainable development. Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI, said that the meeting aligns with the chamber's ongoing efforts to enhance private-sector collaboration between Oman and India. He highlighted the significance of such gatherings in identifying new avenues for cooperation and maximising emerging economic opportunities. 'Omani-Indian economic relations have witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, with forums and business meetings playing a pivotal role in deepening cooperation and uncovering investment prospects,' Rawas stated. He stressed that bilateral engagements between business leaders pave the way for stronger trade relations, new partnerships and the exchange of expertise. The meeting featured bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties, with a focus on high-potential sectors central to sustainable development. 'Let us work together to transform these opportunities into productive partnerships and impactful projects,' Rawas added. On the sidelines, Rawas met with the Indian delegation led by Oscar Kerketta, Chairman of the Energy Committee of the Indian Economic Trade Organisation. Their discussions centred on enhancing collaboration in key strategic sectors and expanding trade and investment relations. The event also marked the launch of a book highlighting the historical, economic, and diplomatic ties between Oman and India, commemorating the 70th anniversary of bilateral relations.

Seminar celebrates 70 years of Oman-India diplomatic relations

Muscat – In celebration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of India, the Embassy of Oman in New Delhi organised a seminar highlighting the rich historical ties between the two nations spanning over 5,000 years on Wednesday. Held in collaboration with Jamia Millia Islamia University, the event focused on the extensive trade and cultural connections that have shaped relations between Oman and India. The seminar underscored the significance of Omani ports in Muscat, Suhar and Qalhat in maritime trade, while also exploring the impact of cultural exchange on language, arts, architecture, and the promotion of pluralism and religious tolerance by Indian communities in Oman. Ashok Kumar Attri, former ambassador to Oman, shared his personal experiences of living in Oman, highlighting the Indian community's long-standing presence and the strong diplomatic bonds between the two nations. Prashant Bissi, Director General of Indian Council for World Affairs, emphasised the historical richness of Oman-India relations, noting the friendship, mutual benefits and principle of coexistence at the core of the diplomatic ties. He presented a research paper titled 'History of Omani-Indian Relations and the Impact of Pluralism and the Culture of Difference on Religious Pluralism and Civilisational Understanding'. Dr Saud bin Abdullah al Zadjali, a researcher from Oman, delivered a working paper titled 'Historical Reasons for the Strength of Relations from Western and Eastern Perspectives', examining India's strategic role in the Gulf region and its emphasis on diversity to promote mutual interests and civilisational dialogue. The symposium was attended by Indian officials, former Indian ambassadors to Oman, academics and students interested in the cultural and historical relations between the two countries. In closing, the symposium called for continuation of cultural and scientific dialogues and strengthening cooperation in economic and educational fields, with the aim of further consolidating the longstanding relations and opening new avenues for future collaboration between Oman and India.

The event was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. The forum aims to establish sustainable cooperation based on active participation, innovation and benefiting from strength points of the two countries' economies. It also targets expanding investment opportunities and joint Omani-Indian projects. Moreover, the Oman-India Business forum focused on a spectrum of economic fields, such as chemicals, power electronics, engineering, manufacturing, construction, ICT services and consultations, communications, solar energy, health, agriculture, food security, infrastructure, water treatment, tourism, art, culture and durable electrical consumer goods. Faisal Abdullah Al Rowas, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry underlined the importance of the Oman-India Business Forum as a strategic platform that brings together business leaders and investors from Oman and India. The forum, he added, also constitutes an opportunity to open up new vistas of growth and development for the business relations between the two countries. He noted that the forum focuses on main economic sectors that are considered as growth accelerators. The OCCI Chairman affirmed the commitment of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry to enhancing business partnerships between the private sector in the two countries. Several B2B meetings were held between businesspeople from Oman and India. The meetings explored available investment opportunities. The forum was attended by Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of India and Harsha VardhanAgarwal, President of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Muscat: Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, received Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry of India, at Invest Oman lounge on Monday. The meeting comes within the framework of the 11th session of the joint Omani-Indian Committee, held in Muscat. During the meeting, they reviewed areas of cooperation in the fields of technology, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy and infrastructure. They also touched on means of attracting Indian investments to Oman. Both sides underscored the importance of the 11th session of the joint Omani-Indian Committee as a strategic platform to enhance bilateral cooperation. Al Jashmi underscored the importance of signing this protocol in a bid to enhance economic relations between Oman and India The two ministers lauded the prosperity of economic relations between Oman and India. Trade exchange between the two countries in 2023 reached RO 2.05 billion. Meanwhile, the value of Indian investments in Oman reached RO 298.8 million. Further, the Indian delegation toured Invest Oman lounge and were introduced to the services offered by the lounge to investors, as well as the prominent investment opportunities that are available in Oman. The meeting was attended by several officials from both sides. Meanwhile, the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of India on Monday signed in Muscat an amended protocol for the agreement on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of financial evasion. The protocol was signed by Nasser bin Khamis al Jashmi, Chairman of the Tax Authority and Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to Oman. Al Jashmi underscored the importance of signing this protocol in a bid to enhance economic relations between Oman and India. The signing of the protocol, he added, comes as a result of efforts exerted to boost bilateral cooperation in the field of taxation.— ONA
