9 killed, 42 injured as Turkiye sees back-to-back road accidents

ISTANBUL: Eight people were killed, and 20 others were injured on Saturday when a passenger bus collided with a truck and a car in Turkiye's northwestern province of Canakkale, local authorities announced. Canakkale Governor Omer Toraman told the press that the truck had overturned into the opposite lane, crashing into a passenger bus and a car, Xinhua reported. Toraman noted that the truck driver and seven passengers on the bus were killed, while 20 injured victims, some in critical condition, were transported to nearby hospitals. The cause of the accident was not immediately clear. Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said a judicial investigation into the accident had been launched, with two public prosecutors assigned to the case. Meanwhile, in another accident, one person was killed, and 22 others were injured when two metrobuses collided in Istanbul, causing major disruptions to public transport, local authorities announced. According to the Istanbul Governor's Office, the accident occurred in the Beylikdüzü district on the European side of the city at around 4pm local time (1300 GMT). One metrobus rear-ended another at the Haramidere stop, prompting the dispatch of emergency medical teams to the scene. The office said in a statement that three of the injured were in critical condition. The accident disrupted metrobus traffic and led to the temporary closure of the station for passenger boarding. Metrobus lines are a vital part of Istanbul's public transport network, serving approximately 1 million commuters daily and easing the city's heavy traffic congestion.– BERNAMA
