MSX, Ominvest host MEIRA Oman Chapter meeting

MUSCAT: The Oman Chapter of the Middle East Investor Relations Association (MEIRA) met in Muscat recently under the auspices of the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX). The meeting, hosted by Oman International Development and Investment Company SAOG (Ominvest), brought together a distinguished group of investor relations professionals, market experts and representatives from MSX listed companies to discuss best practices in investor communications and corporate transparency. The meeting featured three in-depth workshops led by regional and international experts. Frederic Cornet, Head of Capital Markets at APCO Worldwide, led the first session focused on mastering earnings calls. His workshop addressed the importance of conducting well-prepared, strategic earnings calls that align senior leadership messaging with investor expectations while strengthening market confidence. He also emphasised how companies can leverage the outcomes of such calls to enhance future communication strategies. The second workshop, led by Julian Smith, Managing Director of BRR Media Limited, explored the use of multimedia specifically video and animation as tools to deliver a compelling equity story. Smith highlighted how visual storytelling can simplify complex business strategies, increase engagement with investors and ultimately support capital attraction. Real-world case studies were presented to illustrate how companies are successfully applying these tools to enhance investor trust. The third workshop was presented by Giles Coffey, General Manager of Corporate Finance and Advisory at Oman Investment Bank and it discussed the role investment banks play in helping companies navigate the challenges they face in investor relations. The MEIRA Oman Chapter meeting was part of MSX's ongoing efforts to develop a vibrant capital market through improved investor relations practices. The event also reinforced MSX's commitment to transparency, good governance and effective communication between listed companies and the investment community, both locally and internationally. MUSCAT, MAY 7 Oman national beach handball team will eye a second straight win as they will take on Hong Kong on Thursday in their second match in Group A for the underway 10th AHF Men's and Women's Asian Beach Handball Championship. The match will kick off at 8 pm at the sands court in Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. In the other matches, Philippines will play against India while Pakistan will take on Jordan. Oman began their campaign with a decisive 2–0 win over the Maldives in the opener on Tuesday. Oman's Asaad al Hasani and his teammates demonstrated their dominance with set scores of 22–8 and 22–6 to clinch an essential win. The team will target for another triumph which will secure their place at the top of the group standings and move further in the knockout stage. Oman's goalie Hudaifa al Siyabi was named as the man of the match following his outstanding show during the game. In an early match, Pakistan snatched a crucial 2-1 victory over Philippines on Tuesday. The first set ended for Philippines by 19-18 before Pakistan equalised in the following half by 18-10. In the penalty, Pakistan won the match by 7-6. Speaking ahead of the match, Oman head coach Hamood al Hasani said: 'We have clear goals in this tournament. The first target is to secure an early qualification for the semifinals. We will have a tough match against Hong Kong as they are ranked as a fast, young team with good skills but we have played with them before and now the team are much prepared are ready for the fixture. I can say that each match in the group stage is like a final and there are no room for mistakes.' The coaching staff attended Hong Kong match against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to note down all the technical points. It is expected they will select and implement the right technical strategy in Thursday's match. WOMEN'S ACTION FROM TODAY The action of 10th AHF Women Asian Beach Handball Championship will commence on Thursday with two matches taking place at the sand courts at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. In the first match, India will take on Vietnam and the match will kick off at 6 pm. In the following match, Hong Kong will face Philippines and the game will begin at 7 pm. The technical meeting for the women's teams was held on Wednesday and during the meeting all the player lists, kit colours and rule updates were confirmed. Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, Chairman of Oman International Development and Investment Company (Ominvest), praised Oman's opening performance against Maldives and reiterated his hopes that the team will continue to challenge for the championship title and qualify for the World Championships. 'These events bring major organisational and tourism benefits to the Sultanate of Oman. They also provide valuable experience to our national sports personnel and promote Oman as a destination for major global and sporting events, ' Al Zubair said.

MUSCAT, May 5 Oman beach handball team will begin their campaign at the 10th AHF Asian Men's and Women's Beach Handball Championships with an opening match against debutants Maldives in Group A. The match will kick off at 8 pm at the sands court in Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. India will take on Iran in Group B at 19:00 at the same venue while Pakistan face the Philippines in the other match of the group at 18:00. Oman team, coached by experienced domestic coach Hamood al Hasani, will enter this event with high morale after they claimed the gold in the GCC Beach Games in Muscat last month. This event acted as an opportunity for the team to gear up for the Asian event, which will act as qualifier for the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championship. With the fans support, Oman will be one of top teams which will vie to clinch the title and secure a place in the global event. Oman head coach Hamood al Hasani said the opening match is considered as an essential game to go ahead in the tournament. 'Registering a comfortable victory in the beginning of any tournament will motivate and encourage the players to deliver their outmost in the rest of the games. The team is fully prepared and my advise to the players always is to stay focused and leave no room for surprises,' he said. 'We played two successful friendly matches against Jordan. The matches were important to evaluate the physical and technical readiness of the players. Ten players were selected from the initial 13-man squad for the championship. Despite the physical differences at the Asian level compared to the last GCC Games, I am confident in the team's ability to compete fiercely for the title,' he added. Oman line-up will be selected from Said al Hasani, Yasser al Harthi, Abdulhakim al Siyabi, Bashar al Hinai, Hudhaifa al Siyabi, Asaad al Hasani, Ali al Jaami, Muhannad al Zarafi, Mahdi al Suleimani and Said Issa al Hasani. OPENING CEREMONY The opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday at 8 pm at the sand court of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher under the auspices of Khalid Mohammed al Zubair, Chairman of International Development and Investment Company (Ominvest) in the presence of Moosa Khamis al Balushi, Chairman of Oman Handball Association (OHA) and Chairman of the Organising Committee, besidea attendance of members of the associations board, Asian Handball Federation (AHF) officials, chairmen of participating sports associations and heads of the national delegations. The ceremony will feature a speech by the chief of the organising committee, a speech from the AHF, a welcoming visual presentation titled 'On the Beach Sand, We Write the Story of Champions', followed by a traditional Omani artistic performance titled 'Our Heritage, Our Pride' and 'On the Sand Lies Our Glory'. The tournament will then be officially inaugurated. Oman finished second in the previous edition of the Asian Championship in Bali. Since 2004, the team has earned several accomplishments including: first place in the inaugural Asian Championship in Muscat in 2004, fourth in the World Championship in Chinese Taipei in 2009, fourth in the second Asian Beach Games (Muscat) in 2010, second in the Asian Championship and qualified for the 2012 and 2014 World Championships in 2011 and 2013. Oman were silver medallists in the Asian Beach Games (Phuket) in 2014, second in Asian Championship and qualified for 2016 World Championship in Hungary and finished seventh in 2015, silver in Vietnam and qualified for Thailand World Championship in 2016 and 2017, attended the ninth World Championship in Russia in 2018, second in Asian Games in Bali and qualified for the 2024 World Championship in Pingtan, China in 2023.
