Bhilwara: A police constable posted at Jawda police station was arrested Friday evening for his involvement in a major opium poppy husk smuggling case that came to light 15 days ago in Chittorgarh district.
Accused constable Omprakash Jat, a resident of Bagora in Jalore district, was arrested after investigations revealed his role in helping conceal illegal drugs and obstruct action. He was produced before the Begun court Saturday, where he was sent to judicial custody.
Chittorgarh SP Sudhir Joshi said on May 22, Jawda police had seized 12 quintals and 53 kg of illegal opium poppy husk from a pickup Bolero vehicle at a checkpoint at Bassi intersection. Two suspects had fled the scene, one of whom—Raju Gurjar—was later arrested.
During further investigation by Parsholi police officer Prem Singh, it was uncovered that Omprakash was directly involved in the smuggling operation. TNN
