As Trump considers NIL executive order, granddaughter Kai Trump just got another NIL deal

Questions about whether President Donald Trump will issue an executive order to address name, image and likeness standards in college sports after media reports surfaced he was working on one earlier this week. Following a 2021 Supreme Court ruling, student athletes have been allowed to profit from their publicity with sponsorship deals. The change has drastically changed the landscape of collegiate sports, and college sports leaders have repeatedly met with lawmakers to push for federal standards and guidelines. CBS News reported on July 15 that Trump was planning to sign an executive order in the following days to establish those standards. Front Office Sports and Yahoo! Sports also reported the order was in the works. This is not the first time reports have surfaced on Trump's plans to address NIL, and the U.S. House of Representatives is working on legislation known as the SCORE Act. The White House did not comment on the media reports, and USA TODAY Sports reported college leaders did not have knowledge of an imminent order. But whatever new laws or regulations come into fruition on NIL for student athletes, the consequences could hit close to home for the president. Trump's eldest granddaughter, Kai Trump, is a young golf star and future college athlete with her own NIL deals. Here is what to know: More: College sports leaders unaware of Donald Trump's plan for executive order addressing NIL What is NIL? The acronym stands for name, image and likeness. NIL deals protect student athletes' rights to earn money from their publicity and sometimes includes a big-name brand endorsement, like Kai Trump's. Until a historic 2021 Supreme Court decision that led to an NCAA rule change, the NCAA didn't allow student-athletes to profit from their name, image and likeness. An array of state laws have been passed to regulate it, but college sports leaders have pushed for federal intervention. Who is Trump's granddaughter, Kai Trump? Kai Trump, 18, is President Trump's eldest granddaughter, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and ex-wife Vanessa Trump. Kai Trump made her political debut at the Republican National Convention ahead of the 2024 election, talking up the human side to her grandfather, who she said calls her to check in on her golf game. She is a rising senior at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She has committed to playing golf at the University of Miami after graduating. Does Kai Trump have a NIL deal? Yes, she has a few brand partnerships. On July 15, Kai announced a new partnership with Accelerator Active Energy. In February, Kai announced her first lucrative endorsement deal with big-name golf equipment company TaylorMade. On3, a website that rates high school and college athletes, valued her name, image and likeness (NIL) at more than $1.2 million. The valuation makes her No. 1 in women's high school golf and No. 98 among high school and college athletes' valuation, according to On3. Her recent announcement with Accelerator energy drinks, where Travis Kelce is also a brand ambassador, was presidential-themed in a nod to her grandfather. She later went on "Fox & Friends" to announce the new deal. "He really just taught me to keep on fighting and keep on practicing and whatnot," Kai said in the interview, according to Golfweek. "I've loved playing golf with him my whole life. It's the reason that we share a special bond together." Contributing: Tom Schad, Matt Hayes, Jennifer Sangalang, Eric J. Nebraska misses out on four-star defensive lineman Valdin Sone

One of the top defensive recruits in the class of 2026 announces his college commitment on Friday. Four-star defensive lineman Valdin Sone committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. Sone decided among Nebraska, Auburn, Florida, and Georgia. Sone has seen his profile grow over the past couple of months. He participated in the Navy All-American Bowl, recording a quarterback pressure in the game. The four-star was born in Sweden and is a strong run defender with good size, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 310 pounds. This is obviously a big swing and a miss by the Huskers, but if the current recruiting landscape has taught us anything, it's that nothing is official until National Signing Day. Nebraska's class of 2026 currently holds 12 commitments. The class is ranked No. 58 in the nation and No. 17 in the Big Ten according to On3/Rivals. Notre Dame places its two RB commits on Rivals top-10 at the position for 2026 cycle

The Notre Dame football 2026 recruiting class as it currently stands, will go down as one of the best classes, if not the best, in the modern era of college football. The Irish have twenty-six commits in the cycle, a group that is viewed as one of the top collections of talent in the nation. Its image got even better recently, as Rivals merger with On3 pushed a new updated to the class. We've already seen a big-time jump from offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh, and recently Keegan Pope highlighted the top-10 running backs nationally. Notre Dame has two of them on the list, Jonaz Walton and Javian Osbrone, giving them a pair of 4-star commits. Walton, a 5-foot, 9-inch and 190-pounder out of Georgia has an overall rank of No. 120, is viewed as a slightly better prospect, although you could argue that beauty is in the eye of the ranker. As for Osborne, he's got similar size at 5-foot, 10-inches and 195-pounds, is just behind his future teammate at No. 139. There is plenty of excitement surrounding this duo of commits, as we have seen in the recent years that many Notre Dame running backs have had success at this level and the next. They'll surely have yet another one taken in this coming NFL draft with Jeremiyah Love, and depending on what Jadarian Price does, there could be two. The Notre Dame running back room is plenty talented, and will get deeper as soon as this pair arrives on campus. Serbian forward Filip Jovic expected to join Auburn basketball this week

Reports from On3 show that the forward from Serbia is ready to join the roster and begin working out for the 2025-26 season. The roster for Auburn's 2025-26 season is close to being finalized according to a report by On3. According to Justin Hokanson of Auburn Sports, forward Filip Jovic is scheduled to arrive on campus this week to begin preparing for the new season. Jovic signed with Auburn in May after playing two professional seasons for KK Megabasket in the FIBA European League. According to Hokanson, the lone issue preventing Jovic's move to Auburn was approval for his visa. His visa was recently approved, and he is now set to join the team on Saturday, July 19. Following its stellar season that ended with a Final Four appearance, Bruce Pearl and the Auburn Tigers were in desperate need to fill holes within their frontcourt following the departures of Johni Broome, Dylan Cardwell, and Chaney Johnson. Pearl worked in the portal to land several worthy candidates including Keyshawn Hall, Keshawn Murphy, and Emeka Opurum for the four and five positions, and the addition of Jovic will ensure that Auburn will be versatile and deep at both forward positions, as well as at center. Jovic connected on 57% of his shots last season, averaging 12.3 points and 4.0 boards per game for KK Megabasket, a FIBA team based in Serbia. Jovic will be one of the many new faces to wear the Auburn uniform next season, as Tahaad Pettiford is the lone player from last year's roster to return. Kevin Harvick Has 1 Issue With Current NASCAR Drivers

Kevin Harvick Has 1 Issue With Current NASCAR Drivers originally appeared on The Spun. Former NACAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick isn't afraid to share his unfiltered thoughts about the sport, that's for sure. There's been plenty of drama this season in the Cup Series. Back in June, there was a lot of drama surrounding Carson Hocevar and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. due to their collision at the Cracker Barrel 400 in Nashville. Things got so ugly that people accused Hocevar of being a reckless driver. We also can't forget that Joey Logano and Ross Chastain exchanged words after the Chicago street race earlier this month. During this Tuesday's episode of the "Kevin Harvick's Happy Hour" podcast, Harvick addressed all the drama surrounding the Cup Series. Harvick made it clear that he wants drivers to stop talking trash and start retaliating when they feel cheated on the track. "I don't know about the fights, but if you're going to call somebody out on the radio and you're going to talk a bunch of [expletive], at least go do something, or immediately just hammer them," Harvick said, via On3. "Just all the [expletive] talking that happens on the radio, and then nothing happening on the racetrack. There's just no better message that you can send than just wiping somebody out in retaliation. Then they know you'll do it, right? When they know that you'll do it, they're not going to wipe you out. Because they don't want to deal (with that). "That's one reason why, back when I drove, you just — every once in a while, you just had to wipe somebody out. You had to just send a message. You had a bunch of chaos — do you want to deal with the chaos, and do you want to get wiped out? Fine, let's do it. But I don't know that anybody is going to do that." Harvick obviously doesn't want NASCAR's product to become an utter mess each week, but the sport could benefit from some fireworks. The Cup Series will resume on July 20 at Dover International Harvick Has 1 Issue With Current NASCAR Drivers first appeared on The Spun on Jul 16, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 16, 2025, where it first appeared.
