Oklahoma Sooners among top 3 for 2026 4-star linebacker from Texas

Oklahoma Sooners among top 3 for 2026 4-star linebacker from Texas The Oklahoma Sooners have begun to make some headway on the defensive side of the ball in the 2026 recruiting class. Oklahoma earned their first defensive commitment in May in safety Niko Jandreau. And that was quickly followed by commitments from linebacker Jakore Smith and defensive lineman Brian Harris. Now, the Sooners may be closing in on another defensive standout. According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, Oklahoma is among the top three for four-star linebacker DaQuives Beck out of Carthage, Texas. Beck is considered a top 10 linebacker in the 2026 cycle by ESPN and 247Sports and is a top 200 player in the 247Sports Composite and the On3 Industry Rankings. Beck's top three includes Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M, and he holds offers from SEC schools like Texas, Ole Miss, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi State. He also has offers from Oregon, SMU, Baylor, TCU, Houston, and Texas Tech. He's a versatile linebacker who would be a fantastic fit as the cheetah in Brent Venables' defense. Beck shows the ability to line up along the line of scrimmage and set the edge in the run game. He's physical at the point of attack and has the strength to hold up offensive tackles in the run game. He's got a great first step off the edge that often leaves him getting into the backfield unblocked. Beck displays a great motor, chasing down ball carriers when the play runs the opposite way. He can also line up as an off-ball linebacker and shows the awareness to diagnose the play and track down the ball carrier. Beck plays with good speed and athleticism and shows the ability to drop and play in coverage. The Sooners will have a significant recruiting battle on their hands to win Beck's services but it appears they're in great shape to add one of the best linebackers in the 2026 recruiting class. LSU football hosts ex-Florida commit on a visit this weekend

LSU football hosts ex-Florida commit on a visit this weekend LSU football is set to host one of the nation's top safeties on an official visit this weekend. According to On3's Steve Wiltfong, four-star Devin Jackson lined up a visit to LSU on May 31. The visit will be the first of five official trips, followed by Miami, Oregon, Penn State, and Nebraska. Jackson, a member of the 2026 class, is a Florida native and ranks as the No. 215 overall recruit and No. 23 safety in the class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. Jackson was once committed to Florida, but the Gators could be out of the race after being absent on Jackson's official visit list. LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond was at Florida in 2023 and was a member of the Gators' staff when UF initially offered Jackson. That relationship could pay off for LSU as Jackson's recruitment heats up. Raymond is considered one of the top recruiters in college football and has a history of landing elite secondary talent from Florida. LSU football's 2026 class ranks No. 2 in the country, headlined by five-stars Tristen Keys and Richard Anderson. Jackson would be the third blue-chip safety to join LSU's class. That's big after LSU missed on Louisiana native Blaine Bradford, who committed to Ohio State earlier this year.

Ohio State Predicted to Lose Five-Star Recruit to Big Ten Rival

Ohio State Predicted to Lose Five-Star Recruit to Big Ten Rival originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The 2024 season for the Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day was amazing, as they eventually secured their ninth national championship in program history. Advertisement They've now followed that up with an impressive offseason. They currently have a 2026 recruiting class with 13 total commitments, which ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 3 in the nation. It's clear they're still looking to bring in more talent, as they have an official visit scheduled with safety Jett Washington on June 6. Though that might not matter, as On3's Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong predict he will land with the Oregon Ducks, whom he also has an official visit with scheduled for June 13. This would be a huge loss for Ohio State and a huge gain for the Ducks, as On3 Industry Rankings place Washington as a five-star recruit, the No. 3 safety, the No. 1 player in Nevada and the No. 26 player in the nation. Advertisement He's been amazing for Bishop Gorman High School over the past two seasons. He's appeared in 18 games and accumulated 75 tackles, seven interceptions, three pass deflections and two forced fumbles. Of course, Washington still has time to make his decision, and apart from Oregon and the Buckeyes, he has scheduled official visits with the Alabama Crimson Tide (May 30) and USC Trojans (June 13). Ohio State Buckeye head coach Ryan Robertson/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images If Washington manages to land with Oregon, though, he would add to a 2026 recruiting class that has a lot of talent, ranking No. 3 in the Big Ten and No. 10 in the nation with a total of seven commitments. LSU linebackers named to prestigious defensive award watchlist

LSU linebackers named to prestigious defensive award watchlist LSU football linebackers Harold Perkins Jr. and Whit Weeks were named to the Lott Trophy watch list. The trophy is awarded annually to the nation's best defensive player for impact on and off the field. The last Tiger to take home the award was Glenn Dorsey in 2004. With Weeks and Perkins, LSU is aiming to have one of the best linebacker duos in the SEC. Perkins and Weeks are both coming off significant injuries in 2024. Perkins went down in Week Four with a knee injury, while Weeks was carted off the field in the second quarter of the Kinder's Texas Bowl after sustaining multiple lower-body injuries. Weeks led the team with 125 tackles, including 10 for loss and 3.5 sacks. He added six quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, and an interception. Despite sitting out all spring, he will be at full strength for summer workouts. Perkins burst onto the scene as one of the SEC's top pass rushers in 2022, but Perkins moved to inside linebacker in 2023. It was an adjustment for the former five-star recruit, but he made 75 tackles, including 13 for loss, in a second-team All-SEC season as a sophomore. The New Orleans native will aim to increase his NFL Draft stock with a standout senior season. Perkins' exact role in 2025 remains to be seen. There's been talk of Perkins' playing the STAR position in Blake Baker's defense, but that slot is usually manned by a defensive back. Look for LSU to take advantage of Perkins' versatility this fall. Where Whit Weeks and Harold Perkins ranked as recruits Weeks and Perkins were both among the top linebackers in the country in their respective recruiting classes. Perkins, a member of the 2022 class, was the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 1-ranked linebacker. Weeks signed in 2023 and ranked No. 149 overall in the On3 Industry Rankings. Weeks was the No. 15-ranked linebacker in his class.

Prized four-star recruit locks in official visit with LSU football

Prized four-star recruit locks in official visit with LSU football On3's Steve Wiltfong reported Wednesday that four-star defensive lineman Deuce Geralds will visit LSU as one of four scheduled official visits over the next month. The 2026 prospect heads to Baton Rouge on May 30 before visits to Ole Miss, Oregon, and Ohio State. The Suwanee, GA native ranks as the state's No. 9 prospect and No. 6 at his position, according to On3's Industry Rankings. Per the On3 Prediction Machine, Ohio State is the favorite to land Gerlads with a 79.1% chance. Ole Miss is also in contention, but LSU isn't out of the race yet. Geralds would be the second commit at defensive line alongside five-star Richard Anderson in LSU's 2026 group. With a retooled defensive front under Blake Baker, LSU provides an experienced lineup that Geralds would develop under before making a major impact himself. More on LSU football's 2026 recruiting class LSU football's 2026 recruiting class ranks No. 1 in college football, ahead of USC at No. 2 and Ohio State at No. 3. The class is headlined by five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys and five-star defensive lineman Richard Anderson. LSU has nine commits with an average recruit rating of 93.16, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. Eight of LSU's nine commits are blue-chip players.
