I did have a tiny chuckle when I read the story of why Edward Enninful, former editor of Vogue, is no longer on speaking terms with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. No doubt your mind is on higher things than mine, so I'll bring you up to speed. One of the biggest mysteries among the fashion chatterati in recent times has been why did Edward and Meghan, once famously firm texting buddies, fall out? Last weekend The Mail on Sunday reported it was all down to a spat over Vogue's front cover. Meghan was due to feature across several pages in Vogue's September 2022 issue, talking about her charitable work. The coverage was apparently set to coincide with her keynote appearance at the One Young

‘Real reason' Meghan Markle's ‘inseparable' friendship with Vogue editor imploded in feud over front cover
MEGHAN Markle dropped her former best pal Edward Enninful after a row over the cover of Vogue, sources claim. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, and the former magazine editor were once thick as thieves who bonded over mint tea and "philosophising". 5 The ex- Suits actress said the duo were "like-minded thinkers" after she helped edit an edition in 2019. But the pair cut contact and their fall out has been shrouded in mystery. As reported by the Mail on Sunday, the real reason behind their bitter dispute has finally been revealed. Sources claim their fall out was over Enninful's plans to cover Meghan and Harry's charity work in a feature. He wanted to showcase the Duchess' keynote speech at the One Young World Summit in Manchester in 2022. But Conde Nast insiders allege it was axed suddenly. A Conde Nast insider claimed: "The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations. "He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month." "The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online – but she turned it down." After being told they wouldn't make the cover, sources claim Meghan asked to be on the special digital cover which would be available with the print edition. Her request was refused, by Enninful, because he didn't think it would be "appropriate". Controlling Nicola Peltz is next Meghan Markle - Brooklyn has chosen wife over family just like Harry The Duchess was so offended she walked away from the offer completely, leaving the former editor "furious". It is understood this was his breaking point and their friendship was fractured beyond repair. Insiders also claim it hasn't gone unnoticed in the Sussex household how much more involvement Enninful has with the Royal Family. Enninful is now a trustee for The King's Fund, King Charles 's charity. And, he hosted a glitzy New York event for The King's Trust earlier this month - and Meghan was definitely not on the list sources claim. This comes after fans claimed Meghan was "snubbed by Vogue" after she didn't appear on Enninful's final cover. The Duchess was noticeably absent from the impressive shoot, featuring 40 "of the most booked and blessed women on earth". Meghan's friends including Ophra, Serena Williams, and Jameela Jamil all appeared in the glamorous picture marking the March 2024 edition. Meg became close with Enninful while guest editing the September 2019 issue. She left herself off the cover over fears she'd look 'boastful' and chose to instead focus on 15 women who 'break barriers'. Enninful also previously stood by Harry and Meghan amid their bombshell Oprah interview in 2021. The former Vogue editor was one of 15 Conde Nast employees who watched the sensational conversation air live in the United States via a video link from their homes in the UK. Enniful was in "constant contact" with Meghan using WhatsApp as he watched the duchess's chat with Oprah, the Daily Mail reported. A source close told the paper: "There were around 15 people on the Zoom, all top Conde Nast people. "They felt it was important from an editorial perspective that they got together to watch it." However, royal biographer Tom Bower previously claimed in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War between the Windsors, that Meghan and Enninful feuded during the creation of Vogue's September 2019 issue. Staff were described as being left in "silent exasperation" at Meghan and her demands. It claimed the duchess proposed poor ideas, and accused her of being difficult to approach with opposing suggestions. Bower also wrote that Enninful and Meghan had a difference of opinion on how to market the edition - as the former actress wished to leak snippets online before its release, while the editor thought secrecy was best. Meghan even asked if the magazine could hit the shelves in the US before the UK, according to the book, which ruffled feathers with head of communications, Sara Latham. The Sussexes have been contacted for comment. Meghan Markle and beanie-wearing Prince Harry attend famous singer-songwriter's gig By Owen Scott MEGHAN Markle and a beanie-wearing Prince Harry have boasted about attending a hugely famous singer-songwriter's gig - and even left with a signed book. The pair, with Harry sporting a grey beanie to match his coat, even took a photograph with the singer. The actress was pictured with music icon James Taylor - the hitmaker behind tracks including You've Got a Friend and Fire and Rain. Meghan posted a picture with the singer which she captioned: "In my concert era. Thanks James!" She included a snap of herself and Harry with James, alongside the singer's son Henry Taylor. Meghan also posted a picture of the Prince and the singer standing together. Harry wore a simple grey beanie, covering up his famous red hair, and an understated grey jacket. In another picture, Meghan even revealed that she was given a signed book from the famous songster. Entitled Sweet Baby James - which is also the title of one of the singer's hit albums - the book contains illustrated pop-up designs and sells for $25. James is currently on tour in the United States with his special guest Tiny Habits. Meghan posted a picture from the crowd at his concert in Santa Barbara, California, on May 14 - one of the earliest dates on the tour. The actress and her husband have made headlines in recent months, after rumours emerged which claimed they were involved in the Beckhams' widely reported feud. According to an insider, Nicola Peltz and her husband Brooklyn Beckham dined at the Sussex's home. The source said: 'Harry and Meghan were very empathetic and very kind to them both. 'Harry was fully aware of the situation and offered Brooklyn his unwavering support as someone who has been through similar.' Brooklyn had shunned all of David's 50th birthday celebrations, sparking rumours of a feud. David is said to be "heartbroken" by the rift with his son, which has been described as Victoria's "worst nightmare". The Sussexes' dinner with Brooklyn and his wife took place at their home in Montecito - where they live with Archie and Lilibet. 5 5

REVEALED: How ‘like-minded mint tea fans' Meghan and Enninful fell out... over the cover of Vogue
The Duchess of Sussex and the former editor of British Vogue, Edward Enninful, were once inseparable. So much so that Meghan recalled, after guest-editing the fashion bible six years ago, that they were 'like-minded thinkers' who enjoyed 'philosophising' over steaming cups of mint tea. Today, however, they are no longer on speaking terms – and the reason for the fallout has remained one of fashion's most tightly guarded secrets. But The Mail on Sunday can now reveal that their friendship imploded during a disagreement over how Vogue planned to feature a glossy showcase of Meghan and Prince Harry 's charitable work. The coverage, designed to tie in with Meghan's keynote appearance at the One Young World Summit in Manchester in September 2022, would have involved extensive features across the magazine and its digital editions. But Conde Nast insiders claim it was abruptly pulled and scrapped completely. A source said: 'The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations. He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month.' Shelving the project is said to have caused irreparable damage to their friendship. 'Edward was furious to have lost the project, as were the powers that be at Conde Nast,' a source told the MoS. 'The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful (pictured)was not able to meet those expectations,' a source said 'The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online – but she turned it down.' According to insiders, the project needed a full production team including photographers, videographers, stylists and editors to shoot exclusive images and film an in-depth video feature with the Sussexes. Sources claim that after Mr Enninful explained he had another cover in mind, Meghan's team had asked if the couple could feature on Vogue's special digital cover instead, which is released alongside the print edition. But again, it is understood that Mr Enninful declined. 'He didn't think it was appropriate to give her the cover,' the source explained. It was then that Meghan's team pulled the plug. Relations between the pair never recovered. Sources add that during the years that followed Mr Enninful has increased his public involvement with the Royal Family, and claim this is not something Meghan could easily overlook, particularly as he was initially supportive of her now-infamous 'Megxit' Oprah interview in 2021. Mr Enninful, who was awarded an OBE in 2016 for his services to diversity in the fashion industry, is a trustee for The King's Fund, King Charles's charity, and interviewed the monarch for Vogue when he was still Prince of Wales in 2020. He attended his coronation in 2023. Mr Enninful follows all three of the King's charitable organisations on Instagram – but tellingly, does not follow Meghan or any of her enterprises. She was also said not to have been invited to a glittering black-tie gala in New York earlier this month for The King's Trust, which was hosted by Mr Enninful and held at Casa Cipriani's grand ballroom in New York. Guests included Lionel Richie, Heidi Klum, Helena Christensen and British businesswoman Charlotte Tilbury. But Meghan, who attended Beyonce and James Taylor concerts in the past two weeks, was not on the list, sources say. 'There is no way she was invited,' said a source. 'That was Edward's American celebrity alternative to the Met Gala.' It all stands in stark contrast to their previous relationship. In 2019, the pair collaborated on an issue of British Vogue which became the fastest-selling in the magazine's 104-year history, selling out in ten days. The 'Forces for Change' issue put inspirational women – including former New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern and actresses Gemma Chan and Jane Fonda – on the cover. The following year Mr Enninful addressed criticism Meghan had received when she joined the Royal Family. He defended the duchess, calling her a 'brave woman' and describing the treatment of her as 'very unfair' and 'harsh'. But he said he 'wouldn't just blame it on racism', adding: 'I think sometimes it takes a minute to understand the rules.' Whether he would defend her again today is another matter. The Duchess of Sussex and Mr Enninful were approached for comment by the MoS.
