NST wins third place at Agrobank Media Awards

KUALA LUMPUR: The New Straits Times clinched third place at the Agrobank Media Awards, thanks to Ahmad Mukhsein Mukhtar's compelling report titled 'Floods devastate 232ha of padi fields in Lubuk Batu area'. His article was shortlisted in the the Print and Online Media (News) category. "What we report helps shape policies that affect real lives. "It's great when a piece of journalism about the struggles of communities like padi farmers gets the attention it deserves, even when it's not the most sensational topic. "It's important to highlight these stories," said Mukhsein. He thanked Agrobank for the honour and credited the NSTP Kedah bureau and the newsroom in Kuala Lumpur. The win, he said, was a result of strong teamwork and editorial support. The awards ceremony, held at a hotel last night, celebrated media professionals reporting on agriculture, an industry central to the national food supply. The event also marked the launch of the Agro Biz Awards 2025, which will honour outstanding industry players contributing to the country's food security agenda. Jointly organised by Agrobank and the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), the awards featured six categories, including the Online Video and Television Broadcasting Media Award, the Radio Media Award, and the Agrobank Technology and Digital Award. Among those present were Agriculture and Food Security Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, Agrobank president and CEO Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin, MPI CEO Ainol Amriz Ismail, SMG COO Lydia Wang, and deputy executive editor Christina Chin, who received the award on behalf of Rebecca.
