I tested 5 viral foundations in the gym to see which were ‘sweaty summer proof' – an £11 buy was a winner
Including a high-street foundation that will leave you looking like a glazed doughnut YOU GLOW GIRL I tested 5 viral foundations in the gym to see which were 'sweaty summer proof' – an £11 buy was a winner Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) WHILE there is no better feeling than enjoying glorious sunshine on your skin - with SPF, of course - beauty buffs absolutely despise the hotter days when the foundation slides and melts off in an instant. While some prefer to go bare-faced or rock a tinted moisturiser, if you're a fake tan fanatic like me, you'll know that's not really an option - as the lighter tints won't match the rest of your Oompa Loompa complexion. 12 From the cult favourite True Match to an e.l.f. foundation, I put five viral beauty buys to the test to see which one would survive a sweaty gym session Credit: Boots 12 While one left me looking patchy, other stayed intact Credit: Superdrug So, to find out which budget-friendly foundations are summer sweat-proof, I tried out five viral make-up buys, all £15 or under. To see which foundations would perform the best in sweltering temperatures, I put them under the ultimate test - my two-hour long gym sessions, which included both weightlifting and cardio. In order to give them a fair chance, I followed the exact same beauty routine with each - beginning with hyaluronic acid, a serum, moisturiser, sunscreen, and topping the foundation off with a bit of powder. Here are the ones that stayed intact - and the ones that left random patches on my face. L'Oreal Infaillible 32h Fresh Wear, £13.99 12 The lightweight foundation left my face glowing - but will it last at the gym? Scroll down to see Credit: supplied/kate kulniece This red-lidded foundation has been around for a years now, and pulls in rave 4.3-star ratings. Formulated with Vitamin C, L'Oreal Infaillable Fresh Wear foundation offers full coverage yet feels lightweight on your skin - it's really a win-win. The best part? I also found that you don't need to apply heaps to achieve the results you're after - so a little goes a long way. I wore this SPF 25 foundation on a Monday - which are my heavy leg days in a gym where air conditioning doesn't seem to be a thing, and decided to torture myself even more by hopping onto the stair master for a further 20 minutes. As I was contemplating this poor decision (amongst many others), I felt the sweat dripping on my forehead and feared I was looking like a hot, patchy mess. But to my surprise, once I took a quick look at the reflection on the mirror, the foundation was still there - although there were some slight patches around my nose and just underneath my hairline. I'm a fake tan pro and have tested all of them - a £22.99 option left me GREEN, but a £3.49 bargain is always a 10/10 Sweatproof rating: 4/5 12 My face after two long hours at the gym and 20 minutes on the stair master Credit: supplied/kate kulniece L'Oreal True Match, £11.99 12 Although this may not be the perfect shade match, I loved how even and glowy my face looked Credit: supplied/kate kulniece L'Oreal True Match - available at Boots for just £11.99 - has been around for as long as I can remember. Now available in a whopping 48 shades, this high street number provides perfect, natural and true-to-skin coverage. Not only is it enriched with hyaluronic acid that provides up to 24-hour hydration, the foundation also has bold claims to ''improve skin quality in two weeks''. While I wasn't able to test out the latter, I sure can tell you that the wallet-friendly foundation is gym girl-approved. I put it to test on one of the hottest days the UK has seen this year and was shocked to see that not even 40 minutes of intense cardio could smudge it, even a little. After I got home following the treadmill torture, the sweat had dried up - and the overall complexion looked almost as good as it had before the gym session, apart from the slight patch under my eyes. Sweatproof rating: 5/5 12 Despite sweating like a pig, the £11.99 foundation barely smudged Credit: supplied/kate kulniece e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter, £15 12 e.l.f's Liquid Filter was shiny - but surprisingly sweat proof Credit: supplied/kate kulniece One of the more affordable brands on the high-street, e.l.f. has truly surprised me as of late, whether it's their brow pencil or liquid contour. So when I spotted e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter on the shelves I snapped it up without much hesitation - especially after reading the thousands of rave reviews. Although this is theoretically not a foundation, it can be worn as make-up and I found that with a few layers you can achieve the desired level of coverage. However, do be warned - you will be left looking like a glazed doughnut and it's best to have your go-to powder at the ready. Fabulous' £10 Fake Tan Test FINDING the perfect fake tan isn't easy. That's why Fabulous tested a number of fake tans which cost less than £10.. *If you click on a link in this boxout we will earn affiliate revenue Superdrug Solait Self Tan Mousse Medium - £4.79 (was £5.99) - Buy Now Tester: Abby Wilson, Senior Fabulous Digital Writer Review: "This product give a very natural looking tan and if you wanted something a bit bolder, I'd suggest leaving it on longer or choosing a darker shade. I'm impressed with the results, but now my entire room stinks of the stuff. If you're on a budget and want a tan for last-minute plans, I would say this is one to try. " bBold Dream Mousse Tan in Dark - £9.50 - Buy Now Tester: Josie O'Brien, Senior Fabulous Digital Writer Review: "The first thing that hit me about this tan was the 'juicy watermelon' scent - it's delicious. I was left with a natural bronze hue rather than orange glow. My only qualm is that the tan seemed to stick to my dry patches and accentuated 'strawberry skin' on my legs. I'm still adding this tan to my arsenal though - the smell, colour and texture are dreamy." St Moriz Professional Medium Tanning Mousse - £4.99 - Buy Now Tester: Kate Kulniece, Fabulous Writer Review: "Not only does St. Moriz mousse leave you with a gorgeous bronzed glow, but it also smells fabulous - think Piña Colada on a sunny beach. At first, I was a little bit sceptical cause I'm a gradual fake tan girlie, but this quick developing St. Moriz number may change it all." While I may have looked more shiny than I like to, this foundation hybrid didn't feel too cakey - and best of all, got me heaps of compliments at the gym. I wore the £15 beauty bag must-have in sweltering 29C heat - and not only did it survive the muggy weather but also an intense lower body session, followed by 30 minutes on the stairmaster and some skipping. While I quite enjoyed this product - which can even be used a highlighter - it's currently available in just 12 shades, only four or which are suited for darker complexions. Sweatproof rating: 4/5 12 It was a 29C day and the product lasted surprisingly well Credit: supplied/kate kulniece Maybelline Super Stay 24H Foundation + Vitamin C, £13.99 12 I ran on the treadmill in the Maybelline foundation - so was it up to the test? Credit: supplied/kate kulniece Whether it's their Sky High mascara or cheap lippies, Maybelline has been a firm staple in my make-up bag ever since I got into beauty as a teenager. As someone who has an oily skin, I was a little hesitant trying Maybelline Super Stay 24H Foundation as Vitamin C products usually offer more glowy results - but much to my surprise, it gave me a natural radiance. This make-up buy, priced at £13.99 at Superdrug, is great if you're a vegan like me, as it contains no animal-derived ingredients or by-products. Right after applying it on my face, I was amazed at the healthy glow and how smooth my mega pores looked. However, the biggest winner is that the foundation lived up to its promises - and resisted the intense workout and the mini treadmill run I did at the gym. While there was a teeny bit of creasing under my eyes, the purse-friendly foundation stayed intact and almost glued to my face - a real winner if you've got a sunny holiday coming up or if you're a cardio bunny. Sweatproof rating: 5/5 12 There was a teeny bit of creasing - but otherwise I was impressed Credit: supplied/kate kulniece Rimmel Lasting Finish 35 Hour Foundation, £10.99 12 Rimmel's foundation promises to last 35 hours - but is it sweat proof? Credit: supplied/kate kulniece Available in more than 30 shades, Rimmel Lasting Finish 35 Hour Foundation is one of the cheapest on the high street, setting you back just £10.99 at Boots. This full-coverage beauty bag buy has a natural-looking finish with SPF20 - which is always an added bonus if you've run out of sunscreen. The cruelty-free and vegan formula also boasts hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and 2% niacinamide, so not only will your skin be red carpet-ready - you'll also treat it with a whole lot of goodness. Although I found the make-up buy on the thicker side, the end finish was pretty natural - but you can always go heavier to achieve a fuller coverage. More than an hour of weight-lifting and 30 minutes of cardio later, the foundation had survived and my skin looked just as flawless as it did at the start of the session - despite the excessive sweating. Sweatproof rating: 5/5

I tested 5 popular fake tans to see which would last the longest – a £5 buy went patchy but a cult fave earned the title
THE sun may finally be out - but if you're a Casper like me, the glorious weather will leave you looking like a lobster and not a bronzed goddess. Luckily, the high street offers a huge variety of fake tans to suit every budget - and many paler Brits, like myself, have been nipping to the stores to snap up mousses and gradual lotions. 6 In theory, many tanning products to promise to leave you with a sun-kissed glow that supposedly lasts a week - and more. But as someone who's been religiously fake tanning since the unripe age of 15, I know that's not the case - especially if you shower twice a day, like I do. Tired of sometimes having to apply the tanning mousse twice a week, I decided to put five different bronzing products to test to see which one would last the longest - and would save you the most money in the long run. St Moriz Professional Medium Tanning Mousse £4.99, Boots This purse-friendly number has won an impressive 4.7-star rating on Boots website - and it's easy to see why. Although at first I was quite scared the shade would be too dark and fake-looking for my fair complexion, I was pleasantly surprised to wake up with a gorgeous bronzed glow. What's more, this is one of the very few fake tans that doesn't have that signature biscuit smell - and the nourishing Aloe Vera formula leaves your skin soft and hydrated. However, do be warned - it will stain your bedding. But did it stand the test of time? As much as I loved the complexion it gave me, my skin started to resemble tiger bread just three days later - despite applying moisturiser after every shower. I got sparkly white teeth in Dubai & they only cost £2k, trolls say they're clearly 'fake' By day four, the patches were so bad, I was left with no other option than scrub it all off with a 20p remedy. Rating: 3/5 St Moriz Advanced Colour Correcting Tanning Mousse Medium £9.99, Superdrug 6 With thousands of beauty buffs around the world raving over their products, St Moriz has become one of the leading fake tan brands. And while the cheaper Professional Medium Tanning Mousse may have been a bit of a flop, St Moriz Advanced Colour Correcting Tanning Mousse could easily become one of my new go-tos. Priced at £9.99 at Superdrug, this product is a tad bit more expensive - but it's worth splurging out that little extra. Unlike most products in the market, it won't turn you into a real-life Oompa Loompa, as the colour-correcting formula boasts a gorgeous olive undertone - think a trip to the Mediterranean but in a bottle. Another bonus is the added hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5 to give you long lasting hydration - which is a must now that the weather is warming up. Although I was quite sceptical this mousse wouldn't be much different as its cheaper version, the extra £5 mark-up was worth it - as my tan lasted close to a week, eventually fading slightly towards the end of it. Rating: 5/5 Garnier Summer Body Hydrating Gradual Tan Moisturiser £6 (was £12), Boots It's one of the OGs when it comes to tanning products - and with a bargain price, it's easy to see why so many people are raving over Garnier Summer Body Hydrating Gradual Tan Moisturiser. Although shoppers can pick between a lighter option and a darker one, I'd suggest going for the dark shade - as it will give you some colour. While the tanning lotion does have that signature smell, it's not too pungent - however, if you do want to achieve a sun-kissed glow overnight, this is not the pick for you. As with all gradual lotions, it took a few days to achieve the complexion I was after - which is ideal if you're on the lookout for a more natural alternative. Sadly, despite taking three days to give me the desired results, the joys of a glow didn't last long - as by day four it started to fade away, leaving patches on the dryer areas, including my elbows and knees. Fake Tan Lovers Guide to Applying it Streak-Free Here's Fabulous ultimate guide to a flawless, streak-free fake tan that will leave you looking like you've just stepped off the beach... Preparation is Key A streak-free tan starts with proper skin prep. Exfoliate your skin thoroughly 24 hours before application. Focus on rough areas like elbows, knees and ankles to ensure an even canvas. Opt for an exfoliator with natural ingredients to avoid irritation. Hydration Station Moisturise your entire body right after exfoliating, but pay extra attention to dry patches. On the day of tanning, only apply a light, oil-free moisturiser to these areas a few hours before you plan to tan. This prevents the tan from clinging to dry spots and developing unevenly. Formulate, Don't Hate Selecting the right fake tan product can make all the difference. Mousse formulas are easiest to apply and blend. Tanning drops can be added to your regular face moisturiser to match your face with your body. Application O'Clock Using a tanning mitt is non-negotiable for an even application. Dispense a small amount of product onto the mitt and apply in long, sweeping motions. Start from your ankles and work your way up to avoid creases. Apply sparingly on joints and use a fluffy make-up brush for your hands and feet. Post-Tan Care Once you've applied your tan, allow it to dry completely before dressing. Loose, dark clothing is best to avoid transferring colour. Avoid water and sweat for at least six to eight hours while the tan develops. After your first rinse, pat your skin dry gently and moisturise daily to prolong your tan. Solait Self Tan Mousse Dark £5.99, Superdrug ''Kate, why are you so orange?'' is something I hear a lot - so needless to say I was petrified when I read several reviews of people warning to steer clear of Solait Self Tan Mousse Dark. Unfortunately for myself, I did turn into a local Oompa Loompa - so if this is your vibe and you don't mind an orange glow, I couldn't recommend this product enough. The formula glided onto my skin easily and left no streaks, which is always a huge win - however, it did have that nasty fake tan smell which my scented moisturiser proved to be too weak to camouflage. While the description promised the glow was ''long-lasting'', it started to fake and go patchy just two days later - which, perhaps, was a blessing in disguise, as I was bright orange. Rating: 2/5 Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam One Hour Express £16.99, Boots Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few years, chances are you've heard of Bondi Sands - the Aussie brand that everyone and their mum seem to be talking about. Although I've been hooked on fake tan for close to two decades, I've never tried any of their products - until now that I put their Self Tanning Foam One Hour Express to test. Setting you back £16.99 at Boots, this is certainly on the higher end - but in my eyes, the mousse is worth every penny and the hundreds of gleaming reviews. As the formula develops in just one hour (while most take anywhere from six to eight hours), this is the perfect option for last-minute plans. For a darker complexion, the cult favourite brands advised to leave the foam on skin for two to three hours. Another mega bonus is the neutral scent and the easy application which ensures a streak-free glow. The mousse may have taken just one hour to develop, but that clearly was more than enough time to cling onto my skin properly - as I was left with a lovely glow for five days.

Kim Kardashian's go-to self-tanner for travel is down to just $13 at Amazon
We all know Kim Kardashian likes the luxe life. A cashmere-covered $150 million private jet, a custom Rolls Royce, gold-plated toilet seats — the list goes on. So when the woman who can buy herself anything opts for something even us everyday folks can afford, we perk up. In a recent Instagram Reel, she allowed us a peek into her vanity bag (Chanel... of course), and perched at the very top was a bottle of her self-tanner. The best part? It's on sale for a very affordable $13. It's pretty rare to find celeb-beloved beauty products this cheap, especially used by such bougie beauty mavens as Kim Kardashian. At just $13 (down from $19) this tanner is a great deal — especially when you consider the typical salon spray tan can cost upwards of $75 or more per session. It's no wonder the mom of four loves the Ardell's Body Drench Bronzing Spray. It gives you an instant glow, plus it dries down matte and doesn't streak, smear or leave a greasy film. It's wildly easy to apply, too: The nozzle twists 360 degrees, so you can get all those awkward nooks and crannies, like your elbows and behind your knees. It's also not going to leave you looking Oompa Loompa–orange; instead, it imparts a sunkissed, just-spent-a-week-in-Bora-Bora tan. Plus, unlike some self-tanners, the Ardell formula is made from natural ingredients — think orange extract, cooling aloe vera, hydrating sea kelp, black walnut and soothing chamomile. It's also cruelty-free and made in the USA. To get the most even tan, make sure to exfoliate your skin prior to application and spray from 10 inches away. Wash your hands and make sure to wait for it to dry down before putting on your clothes — then you can head on out looking like a beautifully bronzed goddess. Amazon shoppers love the self-tanner just as much as the multi-hyphenate — in fact, over 3,800 of them gave it a perfect five-star review. Shared one: "I have tried almost every high end/luxury brand sunless tanner and this one beats all of them BY FAR! Applies SO evenly with minimal effort (I still use a tanning mitt with it). The color is a beautiful brown with little to no orange undertones, and the best part, there's no odor!! Seriously — best sunless tanner ever." One longtime fan swore it's her favorite, too: "I've been tanning since I was 12 years old. I'm in my 60s now, and the 40-some years I tanned are sure showing now. I have tried almost every single self-tanner out there, then I came across this! It is one of the lesser-priced tanners, but you'd never know it. It lasts until your next shower. The most realistic-looking tanner you'll find." "What a great tanning product!" chimed in a third. "No odor, and it doesn't turn my skin orange like so many I've tried! It's the best tan in a can!!" As with many sunless tanning sprays, you have to be very careful with application. "Stains. Everything. Anything this product hits, it will stain — that's just the nature of it being a spray," advised a user. "Therefore, one must be creative (I once created a bathroom barricade with old towels). I think the best bet is to purchase a collapsible cheap tan tent or spray in the shower then QUICKLY use some elbow grease and bleach to scrub down the shower." If you have Amazon Prime, you'll get free shipping, of course. Not yet a member? No problem. You can sign up for your free 30-day trial here. (And by the way, those without Prime still get free shipping on orders of $35 or more.) The reviews quoted above reflect the most recent versions at the time of publication.
