Welsh fish and chip shop wins major UK award
This is the second time the restaurant's loyal customers' voting has had them win Deliveroo's Best Fish and Chips award
A true Roath institution, Albany Fish Bar is flying the flag for Cardiff in the Best Fish & Chips category

A fish and chip shop in Cardiff has won a major UK award.
Albany Fish Bar in the Roath area of the capital city has won at this year's Deliveroo Restaurant of the Year Awards. Open since 1967, the Albany Road institution has won the Best Fish & Chips accolade in South England and Wales, which covered five different areas. Passionate food enthusiasts were able to cast their votes to support their favourite neighbourhood eateries, with Albany Fish Bar coming out on top.
First launched in 2019, the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards were created to celebrate the best local restaurants and takeaways available on Deliveroo across the UK and Ireland.

Elsewhere, across the border, Oowee Diner in Bristol won in the category Independent Restaurant of the Year for South England and Wales.
This year saw a total of 65 awards up for grabs, including the most prestigious, Independent Restaurant of the Year award and new categories for 2025, including 'Luke Littler x Deliveroo Best Kebab Award', which was brought back by the young darts champion after a three-year hiatus.

Meanwhile, the Rising Star award was judged by chef and daughter of Michelin star royalty, Tilly Ramsay, alongside CEO and co-founder of Deliveroo, Will Shu, and an expert panel.
Over 160,000 votes were cast by Deliveroo fans over three weeks to crown around 50 regional cuisine-led winners from Best Fish & Chips and beyond.
Votes were cast across five regions in the UK and Ireland, which were London, South England & Wales, North England & East Midlands, Scotland and Ireland, by food lovers keen to show their support for their favourite local restaurants.
The team at Albany Fish Bar described their win as "incredible".
In a statement, they said: "Wow, we've won! It's incredible to be named Deliveroo's Best Fish & Chips in South England & Wales for the second year running.
"Huge thanks to everyone who voted – your support means everything. We're looking forward to serving up our award-winning fish & chips to Cardiff locals for a long time to come."
