Two Home Ministry officers held over graft
PETALING JAYA: Two Home Ministry officers have been arrested over a corruption case linked to the expedited processing of citizenship confirmation applications. A civilian was also arrested during an operation in Putrajaya, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed. The three individuals, aged between 50 and 65, were arrested between 1pm and 5pm on Wednesday following information received on the case. 'This operation is a continuation of MACC's recent Op Outlander and the Home Ministry has extended its full cooperation,' the statement said. All three suspects are now getting their statements recorded at the MACC headquarters. Under Op Outlander and Op Birth, the MACC arrested 16 people, with ages ranging from 20s to 70s, on March 11. They were suspected of involvement in corruption related to the late registration of births for non-citizens as citizens, and birth registrations using forged supporting documents. The arrests followed raids on several premises, including clinics and law firms, in the Klang Valley and Johor.

Woman jailed, fined for using forged documents to get birth certs
KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed woman was jailed a day and fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court today for providing false information to obtain birth certificates from the National Registration Department. Judge Azura Alwi meted out the sentence on Wong Yee Lin after she pleaded guilty to the charge. The judge ordered Wong to serve five months in jail if she failed to pay the fine. Wong had admitted to submitting birth registration forms which contained false details about the babies' birth confirmation by a hospital to the NRD for the issuance of a certificate. However, there were no birth records of the babies at the hospital. She had committed the offences from 2015 to 2023. The charge was framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code. On April 16, 14 persons, including three women, were remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in investigations into the submission of false birth registration forms. Aged between 28 and 49, they were believed to have applied for identity cards and birth certificates for children at the NRD. It was done through forms which contained false statements regarding the confirmation of the births, despite there being no hospital records of the said births. In March, MACC said it detained 16 people suspected of involvement in bribery related to the registration of late births, involving the change of non-citizen status to citizen status, as well as the use of false supporting documents for birth registrations. MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya had said all suspects, aged between their 20s and 70s, were arrested under Op Outlander and Op Birth, which targeted several premises, including clinics and law firms in the Klang Valley and Johor. He had said the raids were carried out following nearly a year of intelligence gathering by MACC and the NRD.
