MACC: Sapura Energy probe to take time over US$3.3mil foreign links
KUALA LUMPUR: Graftbusters expect the Op Crest probe into Sapura Energy Bhd (SEB) to be lengthy, as it will require mutual legal assistance from other countries.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the process was necessary to investigate a corruption case involving US$3.3 million.
"Sapura Crest, a company under Sapura Energy, had awarded a contract to a subcontractor involving a company in Brazil.
"The money was then paid through an agent in the Netherlands before being channelled to Singapore," he told reporters today.
