10 arrested in raid on ‘Bollywood' nightspot
KUALA LUMPUR: They cater exclusively to South Asians, providing Bollywood-style dances and shows. But it all came to a stop yesterday when Immigration officers raided the entertainment centre at 12.45am and arrested 10 illegal immigrants. Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohamed Saupee Wan Yusoff said eight men and two women from Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan were caught during Op Gegar. Wan Mohamed Saupee said the individuals, in their 20s to 40s, were employees and customers. 'The entertainment centre was tightly guarded at the entrance and catered exclusively to customers from South Asian countries,' he told reporters after the operation. The department also arrested 25 foreigners, including two children, in an Op Selera raid on three restaurants in the federal capital, Bernama reported. They comprised 18 men and seven women from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand and Indonesia, aged five to 60. Wan Mohamed Saupee said all the foreigners arrested in the two raids were taken to the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot for documentation and further investigation.

23 held in immigration raid on Puchong entertainment outlet
PUTRAJAYA: The Selangor Immigration Department detained 23 undocumented migrants under Op Selera and Op Gegar at an entertainment outlet in Puchong yesterday. Selangor Immigration director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said those detained comprised a woman each from Thailand, Vietnam and Morocco, who worked as a waitress, as well as 16 male workers from Myanmar and four from Bangladesh. "All those detained are aged between 22 and 44 and have worked here for over six months. "Some tried to avoid detection either by hiding in cupboards or pretending to be customers during the raid, but to no avail," he said in a statement today. He added that all those arrested are believed to have entered Malaysia via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Bukit Kayu Hitam, with the help of agents. He said a total of 37 people were inspected during the raids at 6pm. The department also issued a Summons to Witness to a Malaysian during the operation. All those detained have been sent to the Semenyih Immigration Depot and the case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) Immigration Regulations 1963.

61 illegals held in KL enforcement op
KUALA LUMPUR: Sixty-one undocumented migrants and one Malaysian employer were detained in an immigration enforcement operation around Jalan Sembilang yesterday. Op Kutip and Op Selera started at 9.30pm and was conducted by the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department in collaboration with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, Customs Department and police. Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said 78 people were screened. Of that number, 61 undocumented migrants and a local employer were arrested. "The 44 male and 17 female detainees are from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia and India." The detainees were taken to the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot.
