Mob targeted in Edinburgh gang war recruit new enforcer to replace slain gangster
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A mob caught up in the ongoing Edinburgh gang war have warned they have recruited a new enforcer. A new group calling themselves the "A Team" recently hit back at those orchestrating a series of firebombings and shootings in Edinburgh and Glasgow and laughed-off recent incidents. A number of chilling threats have been issued from the Daniel and Mark Richardson outfit on social media as they say a new enforcer has been recruited to replace slain Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll. Earlier in the week they said "bullets win" and warned retribution was coming the way of Dubai-based gangster Ross McGill who is believed to be behind continuous attacks across the central belt. As the Record reports, the threats have been issued in wake of the double-murder of Eddie Lyons Jnr and Ross Monaghan in Spain. A message from the "A Team" told rival operatives: "You allegedly got rid of this man out of total fear. RIP, Gerbil. He would have terrorised you. A real soldier, like our new friend who has replaced him." In a series of mocking posts they branded former Rangers "ultra" McGill a "keyboard gangster" who was engaged in "school boy" attacks via his TMJ gang. Another message read: "Take your wannabe joke of a clan and come back when you are all man enough to handle stuff like men." Feared Daniels enforcer Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll was gunned down in 2010 as he sat in the back seat of an Audi in the Asda car park in Robroyston. The son-in-law of mobster Jamie Daniel was known for kidnapping and torturing rival drug dealers in attacks dubbed "alien abductions". Ross Monaghan was arrested over the shooting but was acquitted after a judge at the High Court in Glasgow ruled there was insufficient evidence to convict him. William 'Buff' Paterson, 45, was later convicted of the murder in 2015 and sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in prison. Earlier this week the Record revealed around a dozen senior members from the Daniel clan and Richardson mob had fled Scotland. An underworld source said: "Nobody knows exactly where they have gone or how long for but most of them are believed to be in Dubai and the rest are in the Costa del Sol. Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages "The TMJ gang were watching closely and hoping to catch one of them out in the open but all of a sudden they just upped sticks and left." The move came after Spanish cops blamed the double execution of Lyons Jnr and pal Ross Monaghan on "an internal member of the Daniel gang". Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston said: "We have been assisting Spanish colleagues with their investigation into the fatal shootings in Fuengirola. "We are not aware of any current evidence which suggests the deaths of these two men in Spain are linked to the recent criminal attacks in Scotland being investigated as part of Operation Portaledge." Michael Riley, 44, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court in connection with the shooting in Spain on Thursday. The total number of arrests in connection with the investigation Operation Portaledge is 48.

Pak betrayed India's goodwill on Indus Waters Treaty with terror: Tharoor
India offered the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty to Pakistan in a 'spirit of goodwill and harmony' but it was 'repeatedly betrayed', said Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in Bogota, Colombia, accusing Islamabad of terrorism. Tharoor, who is leading an all-party delegation to multiple countries to explain India's Operation Sindoor military action against terror infrastructure in Pakistan, made the remarks in Colombia on Thursday (local time). Tharoor asserted that India is only exercising its right of self-defence, news agency ANI reported. He further added that despite terrorism and conflict inflicted by Pakistan, India ensured that the Indus Waters Treaty remains operational. "The Indus Waters Treaty was offered by India to Pakistan in the early 1960s in a spirit of goodwill and harmony. Those words occur in the preamble of the treaty; sadly, that goodwill has been repeatedly betrayed by the terrorist actions of the last four decades. Even though we have had terrorism and war inflicted on us, the treaty has remained in place, but this time our government has placed the treaty in abeyance, which means it is in effect suspended. Its operations are suspended until we get satisfactory indication from Pakistan that they're prepared to conduct themselves in that spirit of goodwill that is provided for in the preamble of the treaty." "We are very conscious that we have been a generous neighbour when it comes to the operation of the treaty. We are in an upper riparian state. We have given Pakistan very generously the waters that they are entitled to under the treaty, and we have not even used all the waters we are entitled to under the treaty. But the time for acting based on goodwill unilaterally is frankly no longer with us," said Tharoor. Indus Waters Treaty suspension The Indus Waters Treaty was suspended in April after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam's Baisaran valley claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. India, in its response to the terror attack, downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan and announced a series of punitive measures, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. India's stance against terrorism Tharoor reiterated India's stance against terrorism, adding that the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists, cannot go unpunished. He added, "India suffered a grievous terrorist attack on the 22nd of April... When this happened, of course, the world rose to condemn the terrorist attack, but that was as far as it went. There was no action taken, not even by the country where these people had emerged from, Pakistan. Nobody was arrested, and there was no attempt at any prosecution. India decided that this kind of outrage could not go unpunished. On May 7, India chose to strike against known terror bases and launch pads." India launched coordinated missile strikes on terrorist infrastructure at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7 under the code name 'Operation Sindoor'.

BrahMos not just a weapon but a message in itself, says Rajnath Singh
A day after it was learnt that India had used its BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to target Pakistani air bases before the ceasefire came into effect, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Sunday inaugurated the BrahMos Integration and Testing Centre in Lucknow — and said these missiles are not just a weapon but a message of strength of the armed forces. 'As far as BrahMos is concerned, all of you know that BrahMos is one of the world's fastest supersonic missiles. BrahMos is not a weapon but a message in itself. A message of the strength of the Indian Armed Forces, a message of deterrence to our enemies, and a message of our commitment to safeguarding our borders,' Singh said. Invoking the words of former President A P J Abdul Kalam, known as India's 'Missile man' who played a significant role in the Pokhran nuclear test, Singh said that 'unless India stands up to the world, no one would respect us in this world… fear has no place… strength respects strength'. Singh also said that Operation Sindoor targeted the terror infrastructure in Pakistan and sent a message to the world that India will take action on both sides of the border as part of its zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. 'The Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor with the motive to demolish terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan. We never targeted their common citizens. However, Pakistan attempted to not only target India's residential areas but also temples, gurdwaras and churches,' Singh said. Participating virtually in the launch of the BrahMos facility, Singh said India's armed forces not only displayed courage and bravery, but also restraint in their action against Pakistan. Asserting that the Indian Army delivered justice for the families of those killed by 'anti-India terrorist organisations', he said Operation Sindoor was not 'just a military action but a symbol of India's political, social and strategic willpower'. 'We proved that whenever India takes action against terrorism, it ensures that the bases of terrorists and their masters will not remain safe on either side of the border… We not only took action on bases adjoining the border, but the sound of the action by the Indian Army was heard even in Rawalpindi where the Pakistani army has its headquarters,' he said. 'Through the surgical strikes after the Uri incident, airstrikes after Pulwama attack and now multiple strikes after Pahalgam attack, the world has witnessed what India can do if terror attacks are carried out on its soil. Following the policy of zero tolerance against terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that this New India will take effective action against terrorism on both sides of the border,' he said. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was present at the facility for the launch along with his two Deputy Chief Ministers, said one should ask those in Pakistan about the strength of BrahMos. 'You must have seen a glimpse of the BrahMos missile's strength in the recent Operation Sindoor. If not, you should ask those in Pakistan,' Adityanath said. The UP CM said that Operation Sindoor has sent a message that any act of terror will be handled like a 'war' until it is crushed. 'Terrorism is like the tail of a dog, which can never be straightened and does not understand the language of love. It needs to be responded to in its own language and Operation Sindoor has sent a message to the world in this direction,' he said. The Rs 300-crore BrahMos unit in Lucknow's Sarojininagar has been established as a joint venture between the Indian and Russian governments, with the foundation stone laid in 2021. The unit is part of the UP Defence Industrial Corridor, which was announced by Prime Minister Modi in 2018. Rajnath Singh and Yogi Adityanath also inaugurated the Titanium and Super Alloys Materials Plant (Strategic Materials Technology Complex) as part of the corridor.
