Police raid 10 unlicensed nightspots in KL, arrest 38 people
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have raided 10 unlicensed entertainment premises here and arrested 38 individuals aged from 22 to 48. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said in the operation dubbed Ops Mega Noda which began midnight on Saturday (May 3), seven locals were arrested with the rest from Bangladesh, Uganda, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kenya and India. The police also seized entertainment equipment, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and cash amounting to RM2,892," he said in a statement on Sunday (May 4). Mohd Rusdi said investigations found that the outlets were operating without valid licences and employed foreign workers without valid work permits. The police also uncovered prostitution activities at premises on Jalan Changkat and Jalan Nagasari here involving Ugandan, Cambodian and Kenyan nationals. The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Entertainment Act, Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63, Section 39 (b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, Section 76 of the Excise Act 1976 and Section 372B and Section 186 of the Penal Code. – Bernama

Eight violent crimes solved, 17 on wanted list rounded up in large-scale Penang op
GEORGE TOWN: A total of 116 individuals, including 17 on the police wanted list, were detained during a four-day operation from Saturday to Tuesday (April 19 to 22). Penang police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said 12 of those detained during Ops Mega Noda/Ops Cantas tested positive for drugs. "During the operation, 479 people were screened and 60 premises were inspected," he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 23). Comm Hamzah said the integrated operation, led by the state contingent Criminal Investigation Department with the support of other agencies, successfully solved eight violent crime cases in the North-East District, North Seberang Prai, and Central Seberang Prai. ALSO READ: Slight increase in violent crimes last year He said the objective of the operation was to round up suspects believed to have contributed to the increase in index or serious crimes in the state. He said the operation focused on elements such as vice, gangsterism, drug trafficking and violent crime. Comm Hamzah said the operation also reflected the commitment of the state contingent to preserve the safety and well-being of the community. "Continuous enforcement actions will be carried out from time to time so that the community always feels safe and confident," he added.
