Orange City preparing for RAGBRAI
ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — On Saturday, Orange City was revealed to be the starting place for RAGBRAI, one of the largest and longest recreational bicycling events in the world.
As exciting as it might be, there is a lot the town has to do to prepare. Orange City officials say they found out on Saturday just like everyone else did, though they put in their application to host last fall.

'We're excited about it. We first hosted in 2017 as the overnight town,' Mike Hofman with the Orange City Chamber of Commerce said. 'We're happy to host our second beginning town for the Ragbrai in 2025.' 'We're very excited. Every year we plan for it to be coming to our city,' said Brad Gabel, who owns Brad's Bakery Bistro in Orange City. 'So we're hoping and we're ready for it.' Hofman said the town is used to large events, but it can be tricky with the year's two biggest event back-to-back.'It's a big undertaking,' Hofman said. 'Behind the scenes already, we've been working on our website, and a lot of volunteers, it takes over 800 volunteers to make this happen as well.'Since word got out, vendors have already started thinking of ideas. The town plans to have a similar setup to what they had back in 2017.

'We've got to be prepared for July,' Hofman said. 'We've got a number of parks and open space areas where we've got a lot of great places for camping. We've got a lot of places for people just to set up and park for long-term parking. Our downtown is really set up really well for this. It's a block-off, a main drag, and that's where the beer garden will be. The entertainment, the expo that happens that day. Most of our food vendors will be downtown there.''We will have two food trucks, and we will have a bakery open at that time with coffee, drinks, and breakfast sandwiches and crepes and other things,' Gabel said.
