Orchid Show returning this weekend
JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Orchid growers and enthusiasts will spend the weekend celebrating their favorite flower as an annual showcase returns to Broome County.
The Southern Tier Orchid Society is hosting its annual Orchid Show on Saturday and Sunday at the Johnson City Senior Center.
During the event, attendees can enjoy raffles, door prizes, information sessions, demonstrations, displays, and vendors. Growers can submit their orchids for judging. There will also be a Bonsai Exhibit by the Finger Lakes Bonsai Society.
Members of the Southern Tier Orchid Society say the show is an excellent learning opportunity. They say the event grows each and every year.
'We do this early in the Spring before any of the local plants have really started blooming or any of the greenery has taken shape. So, I think people are really itching to see a taste of Spring despite the often times cold and nasty weather that we have outside,' said Co-chair of the Orchid Show Jeff Hackett.
The Orchid Show will take place from 11 to 6 on Saturday and from 10 to 4:30 on Sunday.
Admission is $5 dollars, free for children 12 and under.
