New responsible breeder rules introduced in Manatee County
BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — A new ordinance aims at regulating pet stores and breeders across Manatee County.
Enacted in October 2024, Ordinance 24-92 promotes responsible breeding practices to ensure that all breeding facilities and pet stores meet proper animal care standards.
With these provisions in place, all breeders and pet stores across the county are required to secure a license from Manatee County Animal Welfare, and provide proof of their compliance with state and federal laws.
'This is an essential step in enhancing the protection of both animal welfare and the well-being of our community, as well as ensuring consumer safety,' said District 4 Commissioner Mike Rahn regarding the new regulations.
The new permit is free to obtain and must be renewed annually.
Violations of the ordinance can result in penalties such as fines of up to $500 or the revocation of licenses.
Further information about the ordinance and how to apply can be found on Manatee County's website.
