High school track star trips over final hurdle... what happened next left fans stunned
The Oregon State Track Championships played host to one of the most extraordinary finishes in recent memory after a high school hurdler rolled over the line to claim victory.
Brooklyn Anderson of Thurston High School looked on course for a routine win in the girl's 5A 100m hurdles race in Eugene over the weekend.
The junior streaked clear of her rivals over the first half of the race, only for her trailing leg to clip the final hurdle.
Anderson was sent tumbling to the floor but still managed to triumph after rolling forwards - twice - until she crossed the line. The video has gone viral, gaining millions of views on social media.
The Oregon track star rolled over the line in 14.93 seconds to claim the state title and afterwards Anderson revealed how she leant on her previous experience in gymnastics.
'All I remember is resorting back to my gymnastics career,' she told the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA).
The Thurston High School star took a tumble but managed to roll over the line in first place
'I wasn't sure how far back everybody else was behind me, so I just knew to just keep rolling, because I wanted to get first.'
Anderson explained that her overriding emotion at the time was 'confusion, because I wasn't sure if anyone had caught me yet.
'Then once I saw it up there, I was just so proud, just very, very happy. Nobody's ever cheered for me that loud before.'
According to Milesplit, Anderson also finished third in the long jump and third in the 100m.
