Vietnamese Tet Festival held at McDaniel High
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Year of the Snake officially began January 29, but a Tet Festival and Show was held at McDaniel High School in Portland Friday night.
The event, put together by the Oregon Vietnamese American Cultural Center, highlighted Oregon's first Vietnamese dual language immersion program. Portland Public Schools students from pre-K to high school took part in the performances.

Many elected leaders, including Gov. Tina Kotek, were at the event.
'I want to wish you Happy New Year, chúc mừng năm mới!, chúc mừng năm mới!' the governor told the crowd.
State Rep. Daniel Nguyen told KOIN 6 News that students are truly immersed in the language.
'They're actually teaching not only the language, but they're teaching the subjects in Vietnamese, too. So – science, math – all in Vietnamese as well,' Nguyen said. 'It's not just one course of Vietnamese language – most of the day is in Vietnamese.'
This April marks the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, a moment that led tens of thousands of Vietnamese to resettle in Oregon.
