Lok Adalat settles 92 cases, awards Rs 7.48cr in compensation

Orissa high court
on Saturday saw 12% of the cases taken up being settled as the benches awarded a total of Rs 7.48 crore in
insurance claims
.According to official records, 1.5 lakh cases remain pending in the HC till May 6.
As part of efforts to reduce the backlog, 795 cases were taken up by seven Lok Adalat benches under the aegis of the Orissa HC Legal Services Committee and state legal services authority.
A total of 92 cases were settled. Of these, 88 were insurance-related cases involving public and private insurers. The remaining cases involved matters related to land acquisition, service disputes, electricity, compensation and matrimonial Lok Adalat benches were presided over by Justices S K Sahoo, S K Panigrahi, A K Mohapatra, V Narasingh, B P Satapathy, M S Raman and S K Mishra.
