Young victim in Algiers shooting dies from her injuries days later

ALGIERS, La. (WGNO) — The 9-year-old wounded in an Algiers shooting on May 12, has died. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office identified the victim as Lee'Lani Brooks. According to the New Orleans Police Department, on that day, Brooks and her mother were attempting to escape a shooting in the 1600 block of Elizardi Boulevard when a stray bullet flew through their window striking the child. Man found shot, killed in Gentilly neighborhood The child was taken to the hospital where she had been in critical condition for several days. On May 16, Brooks died from her injuries, according to the coroner's report. Through the investigation, NOPD officers identified 19-year-old Evans Rogers as a suspect and on May 13 obtained an arrest warrant for Rogers who had barricaded himself inside a Terrytown hotel. NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a juvenile. According to officers, around 8 a.m. the juvenile was struck by a vehicle in the 1400 block of Desire Street. NOPD Fatality Investigators are currently on the scene of the crash. No further details are available at this time. NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A motorcyclist is dead following a crash early Thursday, Feb. 6. According to the New Orleans Police Department, around 5:35 a.m. they were alerted of a crash at the corner of Alvar and Benefit streets. Man shot to death in Willow Brook neighborhood early Thursday Responding officers arrived to find a crash between a truck and motorcycle. The motorcyclist was injured in the collision and taken to a hospital where they later died. No further details are available at this time.
