FDA Announces Recall of Aldi Cheese in 4 States for Potential Metal Contamination

More than 4,000 bags of Aldi's Happy Farms shredded cheese has been recalled across four states for potential foreign matter contamination. The recall was initiated by the manufacturer, Great Lakes Cheese Co. Inc., on Feb. 15, 2025, and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration issued a Class II recall notice on March 19. A Class II recall is the second most severe recall, denoting that the product can cause 'temporary' or 'reversible' health consequences. Aldi's Happy Farms Colby Jack shredded cheese, which is the store's generic brand mixture of Colby & Monterey Jack shredded cheeses, is the only product impacted by this recall. The shredded cheese was recalled after stainless steel fragments were found inside the bag. Additionally, Aldi's Happy Farms Colby Jack is only being recalled in four states: Connecticut, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. To identify if you have the recalled cheese, you should check for all of the following information: Batch number: 8679653 Item number: 170374 UPC: 4061463330840 Lot number: Best By JUL 13 25 H or Best By JUL 14 25 H Because the recall was initiated more than a month ago, it's likely that the cheese has been pulled from all Aldi shelves. However, if you have the recalled cheese in your fridge, you should not consume it. Instead, throw it away or return it to your Aldi store for a full refund or replacement. This is the second recall to come out of Great Lakes Cheese Co. Inc. this year. On Jan. 16, the company issued a market withdrawal for its Our Family American Cheese Slices made with 2% Milk because of a 'flavor discrepancy.' While it wasn't necessarily a food safety issue, the products were pulled from shelves and customers have been urged not to consume them. If you still have Our Family American Cheese Slices in your fridge, check for the recalled UPC 0-70253-50023 and expiration date of Nov. 22, 2025. If you have the recalled American cheese, return it to the original place of purchase for a refund or replacement. Read the original article on ALLRECIPES
