Community volunteers come together to help Brighton woman remove tree
DENVER (KDVR) — After FOX31's Greg Nieto shared a Brighton woman's plea for help to remove a tree endangering her home, community businesses and volunteers came together Saturday to do just that. Beverly Martinez has lived in the home for 25 years and was worried a 100-year-old dead tree will fall onto her home. Martinez requires the use of a wheelchair and could not afford to pay for a tree removal service. Our Family Tree Services co-owner Bryce Freeman heard Martinez's story from Martinez's caretaker and immediately agreed to remove the tree, and possibly a second one, for free. 'The owners at Our Family Tree Service quickly obliged, and what happened next is nothing less than an incredible showing of Coloradans coming together to help one another,' Our Family Tree Services said in a press release. Previous: Brighton woman asking for community help in clean-up FOX31 shared Martinez's story on Mar. 12, and with the help of numerous businesses and volunteers, Our Family Tree Services said they got the job done to help Martinez on Saturday. 'Through the support of Mr. Nieto and his network, what started as a donation of time and equipment has turned into an amazing showing of the strength and resilience of our community,' Our Family Tree Services said. 'The response has been amazing. Companies and organizations from across the state have contributed their services and staff to assist.' Among the businesses that helped were local recycling junk removal and waste companies and a church that brought volunteers. Restaurants Santiago's Mexican Restaurants, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chili's Grill and Bar and Texas Roadhouse all provided food for volunteers. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. FOX31 Weather: View the latest Denver forecasts, maps and radar Martinez requires the use of a wheelchair and cannot afford to pay a tree-removal service. Her caregiver contacted 'Our Family Tree Services.' When co-owner Bryce Freeman heard Martinez' story, he immediately agreed to remove the tree, and possibly a second one, for free. The job could take anywhere from 3 to 6 hours. Because it's so labor-intensive, Freeman and Martinez are asking for volunteers to help clean up the branches and debris.
