'Creed' universe expands with new TV series on Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video is officially expanding the 'Creed' universe into a new television drama titled Delphi, named after the iconic boxing gym featured in the hit franchise. While full plot details are still under wraps, the upcoming series will center on young fighters training at the Delphi Gym, a major setting throughout the Creed films. The gym, run by Tony "Little Duke" Evers Jr. (played by Wood Harris), carries on the legacy of his father, who famously trained Apollo Creed. Marco Ramirez will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Ramirez previously created Hulu's boxing drama La Máquina and worked on high-profile series like Daredevil, The Defenders, Fear the Walking Dead, and the Twilight Zone reboot. He brings notable experience to Delphi, ensuring it's rooted in both character and sport. Michael B. Jordan, who stars as Adonis Creed in the films, will executive produce through his Outlier Society banner, alongside Liz Raposo. Irwin Winkler, David Winkler, and Charles Winkler of Winkler Films are also executive producers. Outlier Society currently holds a first-look film deal and an overall television deal with Amazon MGM Studios. The Creed films themselves are a continuation of the legendary Rocky series, and Delphi marks the first major TV entry in this cinematic universe. With its focus on rising boxers, legacy, and the grit of the gym, Delphi is poised to bring a fresh perspective to the fight game.

New Muhammad Ali TV show shoots in Hamilton

A new TV series on Muhammad Ali is aiming to show another side of the boxing icon. 'The Greatest' from Amazon MGM studios, is backed by Ali's family and has his widow, Lonnie Ali, serving as one of the executive producers. Another of the executive producers is Michael B. Jordan, who knows a thing or two about boxing from his role in the 'Creed' movies. His production company, Outlier Society, is involved in the project. ''The Greatest' is the first authorized scripted series about the life of the global icon and humanitarian, Muhammad Ali,' Amazon MGM says in a release. 'The world remembers an icon, but 'The Greatest' is about a man, a husband, a father, a brother and a son.' 'The Greatest' chronicles the life of boxing legend Muhammad Ali. It recently shot scenes in Hamilton. The production was in Hamilton last Friday, shooting inside the Scottish Rite and Laidlaw Memorial United Church on Ottawa Street North. It shot during the day at the Scottish Rite and in the evening at the church. The series will debut on Amazon Prime. A crew member stands amid cranes carrying huge lights to film the Muhammad Ali TV bio-series at Laidlaw Memorial United Church on Ottawa Street North last Friday. It was one of two sports movies shooting in the city the last two weeks. The other was 'Heated Rivalry,' based on the book by U.S. author Rachel Reid. It tells the story of two hockey superstars and rivals who fall in love and try to keep it secret from their fans and the public. Ali's life has been depicted in two movies. There was the 1977 film called 'The Greatest' which starred the boxer himself. 'Ali' came out in 2001 and starred Will Smith. It was nominated for two Oscars, including Best Actor for Smith. Both films cover his rise as a fighter in the 1960s, his joining the Nation of Islam and changing his name from Cassius Clay, his legal fight in refusing to be drafted for the Vietnam War and 'The Rumble in the Jungle' with George Foreman in 1974. The TV show has Jaalen Best playing Ali. He has been in such shows as the reboot of 'Magnum P.I.' and the spinoff. His father Cassius Clay Sr. is played by Omari Hardwick (the TV show 'Power') and his mother Odessa Clay is played by Dana Gourrier, who was in two Quentin Tarantino movies, 'Django Unchained' and 'The Hateful Eight.' His brother, Rudy Clay, is played by Kai Parham, who appeared in the Colin Kaepernick limited series 'Colin in Black & White' and Sonny Liston is portrayed by Amin Joseph, who was in the movie 'The Royal', about troubled Kansas City Royals player Willie Mays Aikens. Incidentally, the real Ali visited Hamilton in 1983 and 1986. 'Heated Rivalry' features Connor Storie as Ilya Rozanov, captain of the Boston Bears, and Hudson Williams, as Shane Hollander, captain of the Montreal Voyageurs. Storie had a pivotal role in 'Joker: Folie a Deux' and Williams has appeared in the CBS show 'Tracker.' It filmed at the corner of King Street East and James Street North, in a John Street North alleyway, near King Street East, Gore Park and inside the Sheraton Hotel and Trocadero Restaurant. Shooting takes place at a Cambridge home for the Muhammad Ali series 'The Greatest.' The setting was Louisville, Ky. If you are a fan of the hit CBS/Global sitcom 'Ghosts' (which films in Montreal), you might have picked up that the dead trader Trevor Lefkowitz (Asher Grodman) is obsessed with the 1992 movie 'The Cutting Edge.' It got mentioned a few times in the April 17 episode where his daughter — who he didn't know he had — visits the mansion, where the ghosts live with owners Sam and Jay. It turns out his daughter is also a fan. Some of you may know the movie was shot in Hamilton. It stars Moira Kelly as a figure skater and D.B. Sweeney as a hockey player who team up to compete in the Olympics. It filmed at Copps Coliseum, now FirstOntario Centre. The reason why Trevor is obsessed with the movie is because it is one of the favourite films of one of the show's executive producers.
