Fans of the club are still reeling from a horrifying incident that saw a car ram into supporters while they celebrated the team's Premier League title on the streets of Liverpool on Monday. At least 79 people were injured, including a nine-year-old child. Paul Doyle, 53, has since been charged with dangerous driving, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding with intent to cause GBH, and attempting to cause GBH with intent. "I'm sure you are aware of the tragic events that happened in Liverpool around their trophy parade," he said to start the show. "Everybody here at the Overlap just wants to send their best wishes to everyone involved and hopefully fingers crossed everyone is OK." Carragher then spoke to a fan who was on the streets when the incident happened, as he recalled "fearing the worst" as he struggled to get hold of his son - who was near the site of the crash but thankfully was unharmed. "I turned onto Dale Street and as we got 400 yards down, police were running past us and screamed at us to get onto the pavement," he said. "By the time we got to the pub, people came in and said something had happened involving a car. Immediately you start to fear the worst. "My first move was to get hold of my son because I knew he was round and about. I couldn't get hold of him because of the amount of people there. When I eventually got hold of him, he had been right there and he had seen it. "One of his mates spotted the car coming towards him and pushed his mate out of the way and saved his life. Collectively, we're all thankful the whole thing wasn't worse. It easily could have been." Other tributes have poured out from Liverpool figures, with ex-boss Jurgen Klopp admitting he was "shocked and devastated", while current manager Arne Slot hailed those who helped fans in their "hour of need". Slot was due to attend the LMA Awards dinner but withdrew out of respect for those caught up in the incident. He said: "This is not a decision I have taken lightly but it is one that I feel is absolutely right given the seriousness of the situation. I hope that I have your understanding in this regard.

Wayne Rooney wrote off players after two games as he reflects on sacking
Wayne Rooney lasted just 83 days at Birmingham City after a disastrous tenure that saw him lose nine of his 15 games in charge - and now the Manchester United legend has pulled back the curtain on the troubled spell Wayne Rooney has shed light on his ill-fated spell at Birmingham City by revealing he knew his players weren't good enough to play his style of football just two games into his tenure. The Manchester United legend has endured a difficult start to life as a manager after being axed from two jobs in 2024. Rooney was appointed as Birmingham's new manager in October 2023 but his time at St Andrews was a disaster as he lasted just 83 days in charge following a run of nine defeats in 15 matches. Later that summer he was given another chance at Plymouth, by he was then sacked after just nine months at Home Park and his future as a manager has been shrouded in doubt. Rooney has already discussed his time at Plymouth but has now pulled back the curtain on his miserable spell at Birmingham. He claimed the club's ambitious American owners - headed by NFL legend Tom Brady - urged him to play attacking football on the front foot. However, he quickly became aware that wouldn't be possible with the squad he inherited and even informed the board. Rooney said he was assured he would be backed with new signings in the January window to meet their demands, only to be sacked as soon as the New Year arrived. "When I joined Birmingham, they brought me in and said this is how we want to play," Rooney said while speaking on the Overlap Fan Debate. "After two games I said to them the players can't do it. I wanted to adjust and adapt to get results. But the message I got was no, keep doing it, and then in January we'll get you in players who can - I got sacked on January 1st." Rooney has since focused on being a pundit since his sackings, becoming a regular face on Match of the Day, TNT Sports and Amazon Prime but recently insisted he still plans on returning to management - for the right job. He said in January: "I would like to go back in [to management]. But it would have to be the right club. Certainly the right club." "I think you always have that ego, don't you? You always have that confidence you could go in and get the best out of a bad or difficult situation. Obviously, that wasn't the case [at Plymouth]. I am going to enjoy time with my family, though." Wayne Rooney leaves fans in stitches as he fails to find Liverpool and Manchester on a map in 'fascinating' test of his geography skills
Fans have taken social media to mock Wayne Rooney after he failed a geography puzzle miserably. The Manchester United legend, who was sacked as Plymouth boss in December, was the latest guest on the Overlap Fan Debate. In one of the segments, he was tasked with pointing out the location of a number Premier League stadiums on a map. Rooney had a slip-up gaffe early on, wrongly placing Aston Villa in Hereford - around 90 minutes away from Villa Park. Jamie Carragher quickly corrected him, saying, 'that's not there', prompting a baffled Rooney to fire back, 'well, where is it then?' as the audience burst into laughter. Despite being a born-and-bred Scouser and kicking off his career at Everton, Wayne Rooney stunned the studio by placing Manchester City 's badge right in the heart of Liverpool. Rooney's most cringeworthy moment came when he bizarrely placed Everton - his boyhood club - over in Manchester, just east of the Etihad Stadium. A stunned Jamie Carragher burst into laughter, blurting out, 'are you serious?' as the blunder left the studio in stitches. Carragher placed Everton correctly in Liverpool and said, 'It's there, isn't it?' Rooney, clearly frustrated, fires back, 'It's f***** the same place.'* Fans took to X to mock Rooney, with one posting: 'How can he have spent the first 18 years of his life in Liverpool and not realised you can see the sea'. Another said: 'Wayne… Everton's new ground not far from the old ground you've spent a chunk of your life is right by the water mate. Fascinating human being'. A third added: 'Putting Everton nowhere near water is absolutely phenomenal.'
