SU's season comes to an end in the national semifinals
FOXBOROUGH, MA (WSYR-TV) — In order to beat a team as good as Maryland at this stage in the season, you have to play a relatively clean game. Syracuse did not do that on Saturday in the national semifinals. The Orange committed 10 turnovers and went nearly 27 minutes in the first half without a goal, allowing the Terrapins to build an insurmountable lead in a 14-8 victory. SU tallied the first goal of the game as Owen Hiltz scored on his team's first possession just :51 into the first quarter. After that though, Maryland took over. The Terps scored eight straight goals before Finn Thomson finally snapped the 26:54 drought with his first of two goals in the game. The Orange did show some life with three unanswered goals in the third quarter to pull within five at 10-5. Maryland, though, was never really threatened and cruised from there. The Terrapins will now make their fourth appearance in the national title game in the last five years. Syracuse, meanwhile, closes out the season with a 13-6 record. Syracuse wins thriller over Princeton to advance to semifinals
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – For the first time since 2013, the Syracuse men's lacrosse team is headed to the NCAA semifinals. SU knocking off #3 Princeton 19-18 in the quarterfinals on Saturday down on Long Island. SU broke the game open in the third, outscoring Princeton 6-1. The Tigers erased a four-goal deficit, taking a 18-17 lead with under five minutes to play. Syracuse answered, regaining the lead on an Owen Hiltz goal with 3:50 to play. SU would hold on, snapping a 12-year championship weekend draught. Joey Spallina led the Syracuse attack with four goals and four assists. Owen Hiltz chipped in three goals and two assists for the Orange in the win. Syracuse improves to 13-5, advancing to the NCAA semifinals to face the winner of Maryland/Georgetown next Saturday. Syracuse knocks off Notre Dame in ACC semifinals
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WSYR-TV) – The Syracuse men's lacrosse team snapped its three-game losing streak, defeating Notre Dame 14-12 in the ACC semifinals. SU jumped out to a 3-0 less than five minutes in. Notre Dame answered, tying the game at four early in the second quarter. The Orange responded, ripping off four straight goals. Up by one in the third quarter, Syracuse would score four out of the next five goals and never look back. Owen Hiltz paced the Orange attack with five goals. Syracuse improves to 10-5 overall.
