98 Degrees members reveal reason why they are loved by Filipino fans
The '90s vocal group 98 Degrees has received an outpouring of love from their Filipino fans, thanks to their timeless hits and undeniable charm. But beyond their musical talent and good looks, what do they think makes them so beloved by Filipinos? During the group's guesting in 'Fast Talk With Boy Abunda' on Tuesday, Nick Lachey said that it is their love songs that connected them with their Filipino fans. 'I think more than anywhere else in the world, people here really truly love love songs, right? And ballads. And that's kind of what we've always been known for. It's our bread and butter,' Nick said. 'So, I think it's just a match made in heaven. You know, we sing love songs and everyone here really seems to appreciate and enjoy those love songs,' he added. Meanwhile, his brother Drew credited the Filipino music culture for their group's success in the Philippines. 'I feel like that's another thing. Like, music is such a culture of the Filipino. It's such an ingrained part of the culture that, you know, for us, we got off the planes here in 1997 and we were instantly, like, felt like we were rock stars and embraced. So, it really is a great relationship,' he shared. During their guesting, Jeff also spoke about the respect they have for SB19 and how it was on their wishlist to collaborate with the P-Pop Kings. 'We have a lot of respect for what they do. The K-pop elements and yet Filipino twinge and style and vibe that they have, we think that is a perfect storm and kinda connects with what we do,' he shared, adding that they would love the opportunity to collaborate with them. 98 Degrees, composed of brothers Nick and Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons, and Justin Jeffre, is best known for the hit songs 'I Do (Cherish You)" "The Hardest Thing," and 'Because of You,' among others. The group is currently in the Philippines for their two-night concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on May 30 and 31, which will feature performances by OPM acts Janine Tenoso and Katrina Velarde. —Jade Veronique Yap/CDC, GMA Integrated News
