‘Bollywood considered Rekha a dark-skinned South Indian actor who had nothing to offer': Kabir Bedi recalls how Rekha became an ‘enigma', proved haters wrong

Kabir Bedi's role in Rakesh Roshan's hit film Khoon Bhari Maang remains one of the most defining performances of his career. He played the part of a hero who turns into a villain and tries to kill his wife (played by Rekha) by feeding her to crocodiles. In a recent interaction, Kabir shared how he was approached by Rakesh Roshan to play the menacing character while he was shooting the Hollywood series Magnum, P.I. with Tom Selleck. Kabir recalled that although he was initially averse to taking on the role — being focused on his Hollywood project and his career abroad — Roshan managed to convince him to return to Hindi cinema. Roshan had admitted to Kabir that other leading actors had refused to play the sinister role, and the director believed that Kabir would be convincing as a hero-turned-villain. Kabir also spoke about his co-star Rekha and why he readily agreed to do the film with her, saying, 'When I got to know Rekha is opposite me in the film, I said 'done'.' Kabir revealed that he held Rekha in high regard, as the actor had defied all odds to become one of the top stars in the Hindi film industry. Speaking about the same, he said, 'Rekha was an enigma for me. She had always been reclusive. When she came, the film industry regarded her as the dark-skinned South Indian actor who had nothing to offer. But she proved them all wrong. From an ugly duckling, she became a white swan with her performances. She had established herself by the time Khoon Bhari Maang started, and it was a no-brainer to say yes to a film with her.' Rekha began her career as a child actor in Telugu films. She went to make her debut as a leading lady in 1969 with the Kannada movie Operation Jackpot Nalli CID 999. A year later, her maiden Hindi film Sawan Bhado released but the young actor, who was a teenager at that point, had to face bodyshaming early in her career. Rekha kept on delivering acclaimmed performances and won multiple awards and accolades. As Kabir had said in an earlier interview, 'She gave fantastic performances one after the other. By the time we did Khoon Bhari Maang, she was the queen. After that she won the best actor Filmfare award for the film. I have immense respect for her.' Khoon Bhari Maang also starred Sonu Walia, Shatrughan Sinha, and Kader Khan in pivotal roles. The film was a massive hit at the box office, and Rekha bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her role.

'Full Metal Jacket' actor Kevyn Major Howard dead at 69

Kevyn Major Howard, an actor best known for his work in Stanley Kubrick's iconic Vietnam War drama "Full Metal Jacket," has died. He was 69. Howard passed away on Feb. 14, and his cause of death is unknown at this time. "Kevyn was a loving family man who left a legacy that extends beyond his film career. His efforts to advocate for remembering our fallen heroes and his ongoing support dedicated to our military, law enforcement, and those affected by the 9/11 attacks will live on through his foundation, Fueled By The Fallen," Howard's family said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. The statement continued, "His family wishes to continue his mission of remembering the seven forgotten words: 'Yes Sir, No Sir, Please & Thank You' for our aspiring youth. May we never forget and always remain in remembrance. He passed peacefully, holding his wife's hand on the international day of love." Howard's family concluded the statement with a phrase he often said to family and friends: "Miss you. Love you. Bye." In addition to his notable role in "Full Metal Jacket," Howard appeared in shows like "Magnum, P.I.," "MacGyver" and "Cagney and Lacey." He also appeared in "Sudden Impact" with Clint Eastwood. In "Full Metal Jacket," his character, Rafterman, is a combat photographer, accompanying Matthew Modine's character, Joker, to report on the war. In real life, Howard eventually retired from acting, with his last credit listed as a 1999 episode of "Crusade," and became a successful headshot photographer. Modine paid tribute to Howard on X, formerly Twitter, writing, "Kevyn Major Howard gave and gave and gave so much to the world and especially the men and women of our armed forces. He became famous for his role of 'Rafterman' in Stanley Kubrick's FULL METAL JACKET. His portrayal gave him a unique entrée into the world of the US Marine Corps." He continued, "This led him on a decades-long journey to be in service of our nation's bravest. Thank you for your dedication to others and to America. May all the gods bless you Kevyn. Rest in peace. #SemperFidelis." Howard's nonprofit foundation, Fueled By The Fallen, is dedicated to supporting veterans, first responders and their families in a number of ways. According to the foundation's website, its motto is "Teach A Child To Thank A Hero Today," and it strives to remember those that have passed in the line of duty.

‘Blue Bloods' Cast Shares Tributes to Tom Selleck on His 80th Birthday After Ending the Show

The Blue Bloods cast is celebrating the 80th birthday of star Tom Selleck with sweet tributes posted on Instagram. 'Missing this guy so much. Wishing him the happiest of birthdays! #80,' Bridget Moynahan, who played Tom's onscreen daughter Erin Reagan for 14 seasons of the show, wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, January 29. Donnie Wahlberg, who played Danny Reagan, took to his Instagram Stories to show his love for his onscreen dad, writing, 'Happy birthday Tom a.k.a. Dad,' alongside a photo of the pair together and a series of emojis. 'Happy birthday, boss! Sure do miss being your Gal Friday! #80 #bluebloods #frankandbaker,' Abigail Hawk, Tom's frequent Blue Bloods scene partner wrote in a post on her Instagram page. Fans of the police procedural drama, which aired its series finale on December 13, 2024, also showed their love for Tom in social media comments. 'Wow. 80 is the new 60. Miss your show so much,' one person commented underneath Bridget's birthday tribute for Tom. Another person wrote, 'Just love him!! Happy birthday Tom! Magnum PI is still a fav!!!' 'Happy Birthday to Tom Selleck who played Thomas Sullivan Magnum on Magnum, P.I. from 1980 - 1988. This was the first show to portray Vietnam Veterans and PTSD in a meaningful, insightful way. Magnum, P.I. was an extremely influential part of my evidenced by the fact that I patterned my life after it…' Jack Carr wrote in a post on X, asking fans if they have a favorite episode of the show. 'Too many great episodes to recount - such a great show,' one person responded, while another said, 'Home from the Sea, is exceptional and pretty daring for a show like Magnum P.I. I think that was the episode that won Tom Selleck an Emmy. The script for this episode was so intense that Tom opted to film it in the deep ocean with safety divers rather than a studio water tank.' As for how Tom spent his special day, an insider told Closer that he planned to celebrate with his family. 'He's seen and lived through a lot, and he feels rather fortunate to be here to talk about it,' an insider exclusively told Closer earlier this month. 'Sure, he wasn't happy with Blue Bloods getting canceled, but he wants to focus on the positive and ring in 80 with smiles and laughter and not dwell on the negative stuff.' The source said that Tom's wife, Jillie Mack, and his daughter, Hannah Selleck, were looking to invite some of his Blue Bloods costars to the low-key festivities. 'His wife and daughter are planning a big celebration at the farm with friends over to celebrate Tom and toast to his health and maybe roast him a little, too, all in good fun," the insider said. "No doubt, some people from the show will be invited, like Donnie and Bridget, which Tom will like very much. They're all like family to him.' These days, Tom enjoys spending time on his California ranch property as he looks forward to finding his next project. "He's had some mobility issues, as everyone knows, but he's working really hard to tackle that,' a friend of the star told Closer. 'Tom likes to walk around his ranch, which is why getting his knees back in shape was so important to him.'
