(File) Pakistan's Noor Khan airbase: In a significant development after India attacked and extensively damaged the Noor Khan airbase of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), a new news report has claimed that the airbase of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is allegedly under the control of the US. According to a viral video on internet, Imtiaz Gul, a Pakistani security expert has claimed that the airbase is in total US control and even Pakistani army officials are not allowed to interfere in the airbase. The defence expert has also claimed that American planes are repeatedly seen at the Noor Khan airbase, but no clarity about their cargo has been obtained. Raising serious questions over Pakistan's sovereignty, the claim has brought shame for the armed forces of Pakistan. About Noor Khan airbase PAF Base Nur Khan is a major Pakistan Air Force airbase located in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, Punjab province. The base also hosts educational institutions such as PAF College, Chaklala, dedicated to Aviation Cadets, and Fazaia Inter College Nur Khan. It was in news as India had recently attacked it during its recent Operation Sindoor. Pakistan's army chief General Asim Munir promoted Pakistan's army chief General Asim Munir was earlier promoted to the rank of field marshal, the prime minister's office said in a statement, the first time in almost 60 years that a general has been elevated to the role. His promotion, which was approved by the cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, comes days after the country's worst military conflict with India in nearly three decades, as per a report by Reuters. A security official said field marshal was a ceremonial five-star rank that usually signifies extraordinary leadership and wartime achievement. The promotion is the first since Pakistani dictator General Ayub Khan made himself a field marshal in 1965, he said. With the new ceremonial rank, he said, Munir will remain the army chief. India hits key Pakistani military base: What makes Nur Khan crucial?
India's military action against terrorists and their infrastructure in Pakistan extended beyond terror camps with retaliatory strikes on the nights of May 9 and May 10 targeting 11 Pakistani air bases, including Nur Khan near Chaklala in Rawalpindi. Indian military also went over 150 kilometres inside Pakistan to hit Malir Cantt in Karachi. Air Marshal AK Bharti on Monday presented photo evidence of damages to these military bases, noting that specific targets in airfield of Nur Khan and others sustained significant damage during the retaliatory action. Retaliatory strikes were also conducted at Rafiqui, Murid, Sukkur, Sialkot, Pasrur, Chunian, Sargodha, Skardu, Bholari, and Jacobabad air bases. The targets included communication buildings, runways, operation centres, radar sites, aircraft hangars and shelters at Nur Khan and other air bases. Located just 10 km from Pakistan's capital Islamabad, the Nur Khan air base is a critical logistical center for the Pakistani military which also plays a major role as a trasportation hub. Seated near Pakistan's Strategic Plans Division, which oversees and protects the country's nuclear arsenal, Nur Khan also hosts PAF College – a training college – and Fazaia Inter College Nur Khan. It also surrounds Benazir Bhutto International Airport. According to a New York Times report, Nur Khan air base is 'home to the air refueling capability that would keep Pakistani fighters aloft.' Nur Khan also plays a key role in logistics, VIP transport, and strategic operations. The strike on Malir Cantonment in Karachi was confirmed on Monday as part of Operation Sindoor—India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Home to critical military infrastructure, Malir Cantt holds strategic significance in Pakistan's defence setup. Air Marshal Bharti stated that as India's 'measured and calibrated' response to Pakistani aggression, Indian armed forces targeted military installations, including a surface-to-air missile site at Malir Cantonment in Karachi.
