Hollidaysburg HS music dept. recognized with mayoral proclamation

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — For more than 150 students in the Hollidaysburg Area School District, this week will always be special. Hollidaysburg Mayor Joseph Dodson visited the high school on Monday to read a proclamation that April 7 through 14 is 'Hollidaysburg Area High School Music Department Week'. 'If you see one of the band parents or band students or one of the members of the band and one of the – the teachers. You should congratulate them, because I think it's an outstanding achievement. And hopefully they go continue,' Mayor Dodson said. PA Library Association highlights local libraries for 'National Library Week' The Mayor's office said the proclamation is to recognize four recent Walt Disney World performances in Florida by Senior High music department ensembles, which include 7 Hollidaysburg music teachers and over 150 students representing the school district. The most recent trip to Disney World was last month. 'So once in the student's high school careers, we take this trip. So once every three years, they get to go to Walt Disney World to perform on a world-class stage in front of literally hundreds of thousands of people. It is so exciting and such a benefit for the students to have that first class experience,' Scott Sheehan, Band Director and Music Department Chair said. For the past 13 years, the Hollidaysburg Area School District Music Department has been recognized as one of the 'Best Communities for Music Education' in the United States by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation. 'We are very excited and thrilled that the mayor would choose to honor us in this way. We're very proud of our students performances down in Florida, but we're also proud of our students every day and all the work that they do every day to make music and to contribute to the entire school community,' Sheehan said. The music department will take its next trip in 2025. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
