Scranton man charged with rape of minor
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man has been charged with rape and other related charges after an investigation. Police say Louis Best, 47, was arrested after a victim said Best had raped and inappropriately touched them multiple times starting when the victim was a teenager. Ignited explosive device found inside church rectory
MAHANOY CITY, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been arrested after police say an explosive device was discovered inside a church rectory. According to the Mahanoy City Police Department, officers arrested 32-year-old Kyle Kuczynski, who was wanted on a bench warrant. Arrest made in tissue plant fire investigation Police say Kuczynski was wanted in connection with an incident at St. Teresa of Calcutta Rectory on May 6, where an explosive device was ignited inside the chapel. Officials prepare to celebrate 570 Day in Wilkes-Barre
WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some good news to share with you: On Wednesday, we will mark '570.' May 7, the day that celebrates the 570 area code and the people who live in the area. Organizers say that the NEPA area, which makes up 570, features a beautiful area to live and work, and play. Hundreds of students learned more about Holocaust Tuesday afternoon, the group was recognized by Wilkes-Barre Mayor George Brown, who is proclaiming Wednesday as 570 Day. 'We encourage everybody to share on social media what has changed from them in the last five years, maybe it's a new business or organization, new festival. Man sentenced for up to 33 years for child pornography
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that a Schuylkill County man has been sentenced to 16 and a half to 33 years in prison for the possession and distribution of child pornography. According to the attorney general's office, Joshua Warfel, 36, pleaded guilty in February to dozens of felony counts of charges filed by the Office of Attorney General's Child Predator section. Man charged with distribution of child pornography 'This convicted sex offender perpetuated abuse against a child each time he intentionally shared vile videos online,' Attorney General Sunday said. 'I commend my team for a proactive investigation that put a stop to this harmful file-sharing. We hope this significant prison term is a deterrent for others who think this conduct is a victimless crime — it is far from it.' Investigators say that Warfel was sharing illegal materials on Facebook, Instagram, and KIK platforms, and in the seizure of electronic devices, found child sexual abuse materials.
