Cardiff City hold awards night hours after gutting relegation confirmed Cardiff City were relegated to League One on Saturday Joe Ralls of Cardiff City leads the players around the pitch after relegation to League One was confirmed (Image:) Cardiff City held their awards evening last night, just hours after their Championship relegation was confirmed. The 0-0 draw with West Brom at Cardiff City Stadium consigned the Bluebirds to League One football after a miserable season that saw them change manager three times. They now face the prospect of finishing the campaign rock-bottom of the league, with a trip to Norwich City still to come next weekend. Article continues below Relegation has been entirely of the club's making, having circled the drain for a number of seasons prior to their demotion, with an absent owner taking the brunt of a strongly-worded statement released by the supporters' trust on Sunday morning. A number of the players were seen to be visibly upset at the full-time whistle yesterday and in all honesty would probably liked to have skipped last night's awards, also held at the stadium. These events are always planned in advance but the fact it fell on the day the club suffered the ultimate gut-punch would have been galling for all concerned. Ollie Tanner's strike at Ashton Gate against Bristol City was awarded goal of the season, while few will argue with Andy Rinomhota being named players' player of the season, such has been his steady performances across the park and his difficult off-field circumstances in recent weeks. Ronan Kpakio was named academy player of the season. Shannon Evans was named women's player of the season after being integral to her side's defence of their Adran Premier title, while Fiona Barry was crowned the women's young player of the season. Eliza Collie and Matthew Turner were named PFA Community Champions for their work in the city community, while Zack Thomas picked up the community participant award.
