REPORT: Brad Shaw Not Returning To Flyers Coaching Staff

As first reported by PHLY's Charlie O'Connor, Brad Shaw, once considered a leading candidate for the Philadelphia Flyers' head coaching vacancy, will reportedly not be returning to the team's coaching staff under newly-appointed head coach Rick Tocchet. Some Flyers news: I've heard that Brad Shaw -- who served as Flyers assistant and interim head coach -- will NOT be returning to the Flyers bench as assistant coach under Rick story below, but my understanding is that it was Shaw's decision: — Charlie O'Connor (@charlieo_conn) May 15, 2025 According to the report, this was Shaw's decision. Shaw served as an assistant coach for three seasons under former Flyers head coach John Tortorella, overseeing the team's defensive structure and penalty kill. When Tortorella was let go from bench duties late in the 2024–25 season, Shaw took over as interim head coach and was widely viewed as a legitimate contender for the full-time role. Previously, Shaw had expressed a willingness to remain with the Flyers in a supporting role if he didn't land the permanent head coaching gig. He cited his strong relationship with the defensive group and his interest in helping continue their development. Brad Shaw said that if Danny Briere decides to go with a different HC, he'd be open to returning to his assistant coach role because 'I've invested three years into this D core' and has enjoyed his time with the organization. #LetsGoFlyers — Siobhan Nolan (@SGNolan) April 18, 2025 However, it now appears that Tocchet, who was officially named head coach this week, will be moving in a different direction with his staff. It's not yet clear whether Shaw is seeking opportunities elsewhere or if another role within the Flyers organization could be in discussion, but for now, the longtime coach appears to be on his way out of Philadelphia. Shaw leaves behind a clear mark on the Flyers' back end. Under his guidance, players like Travis Sanheim and Cam York took noticeable steps forward. "He's been great to me," York said of Shaw during the team's exit interviews back in April. "I would say he's an overthinker—in a good way—of the game. He's really good at sitting down with guys, going over video; he tells you how it is in a good, honest done a lot for me and helped develop my game in a good way and taught me things that I didn't even think of prior to him." "He has meant so much to my game personally," Sanheim said in his exit interview. "I think a lot of guys on the D core could probably say the same thing...I'm just super thankful for where he has taken my game and I really enjoyed my time working with him." As Tocchet begins assembling his coaching staff, all eyes will be on who he taps to oversee the next generation of Flyers—and how his vision will build upon the foundation that Shaw helped lay.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni's contract expires after 2025

Before he received an extension last month, Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell had a contract that ran through 2025. Eagles coach Nick Sirianni's contract currently runs through 2025 — and he has yet to get an extension. He'll be offered one. There's no doubt about it. Earlier this week, owner Jeffrey Lurie said this about Sirianni's deal, via Zach Berman of PHLY: 'His future is going to be great. We never talk about contracts publicly in 30 years, so I'm not going to start now, but he's great.' It's one thing to be great. It's another thing to come to a mutual agreement as to the price of his greatness. Adam Schefter of suggests that a win in Super Bowl LIX 'would be worth millions' to Sirianni. This assumes that Lurie will allocate even more money to whatever he currently is willing to offer. Without knowing what Lurie already plans to put on the table, it's impossible to know whether this assumption is warranted. Win or lose, Lurie might have a bottom-line number in mind for Lurie — and Lurie might shrug at an expectation for a significant bump if the Eagles do what they failed to do in Super Bowl LVII. Sirianni doesn't get as much credit as he could for a 14-3 season that secured the No. 2 seed in the NFC. In the coach of the year voting, Sirianni finished 12th, garnering only three fifth-place votes from the 50 AP voters. For the Vikings, the urgency to get O'Connell's contract done came from a concern that O'Connell would finish his contract next year and become a free agent. With no salary cap and no franchise tag (but with a strong whiff of collusion when it comes to coaching contracts), the Vikings would have risked having O'Connell finish his deal and walk away without compensation after one more year. For the Eagles, is there similar urgency? Jay Glazer's Week 18 Sunday Splash! report regarding teams being interested in trading for a current coach was about O'Connell, not Sirianni. If other teams regard the Eagles' recent success as the product of an All-Star lineup of talent compiled by G.M. Howie Roseman and not Sirianni's game plans or in-game decision-making, would there be a land rush of franchises throwing blank checks at him like beads on Bourbon Street? If Sirianni would choose to walk away from the best roster in football after 2025, coaching candidates would line up out the door for the chance to take his place. Sirianni could end up with a lesser team, and a different coach could end up with his team. So even though Schefter's article seems to suggest that, if the Eagles win, Lurie had better pay up or risk losing Sirianni after next season, it seems that the Eagles are far less concerned about that outcome than the Vikings were about seeing O'Connell possibly exit for a new team.

Brandon Graham is taking it "one day at a time" on potential return for Super Bowl LIX

After tearing a triceps during the Week 12 win over the Rams, Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham said he was out for the season. With the Eagles qualifying for the final game of the season, Graham could be back. Via Zach Berman of PHLY, Graham said Monday on his WIP radio show that he's taking it 'one day at a time.' 'I ain't heard nothing, man,' Graham said. 'I'm just excited to be here, excited for this team, excited for this moment.' He added that he 'feel[s] good' more than two months after the injury. 'This has been the easiest injury, I'd say, out of the injuries I've had,' Graham said. 'Upper body stuff is a little bit easier. . . . It's just making sure I'm building muscle, I'm getting stronger and doing the right things to where I'm not re-hurting it. We'll see what the docs say, see what's going on, and go from there.' Graham, a first-round pick in 2010 and one of the heroes of the team's lone Super Bowl win, had 3.5 sacks in 11 games during the regular season. Last week, Graham took a 'we'll see' approach to the question of playing in the Super Bowl, focusing first on getting there. The Eagles will now be there. Will Graham be playing? We'll find out within the next 13 days.
