KSRTC buses to get real-time stop alerts, metro-like voice announcements

The audio system basically consists of speakers which will be installed within the buses to provide clear audio announcements. Digital displays will be installed at single or multiple locations inside the buses. They show real-time information, including current stop and next stop.'The PIS will provide real-time information to passengers about bus arrival/departure times, routes and stops. This will enhance passenger experience through accurate and timely information. We will also air the various public information released by government authorities through the system,' the official said. The licensee can play movie songs, movie scenes, and awareness messages in addition to advertisements, provided they have the acquired the rights for the same. At the same time, no political videos are allowed. The successful bidder can generate revenue through advertising via the PIS systems. However, the same should be displayed through the PIS screens at a low volume without affecting the comfort of the passengers and the attention of the driver. The operator is also required to provide technical and on-call support round the clock. Under the system, GPS devices will be fitted on the KSRTC fleet and connected to a central server. A separate tender will be rolled out to install PIS displays at all the main bus stations as well. The data from the central server will be sent to the PIS displays and a dedicated mobile app, 'Where is my KSRTC'.

Parti Impian Sabah promises early candidate announcement, no room for last-minute lobbying

Parti Impian Sabah president Michel Alok (centre) at the party's Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Sandakan. KOTA KINABALU: Parti Impian Sabah (PIS) will announce its candidates for the 17th Sabah state election ahead of time, with no room for last-minute lobbying or changes, says party president Michel Alok. He said the party had finalised candidates for 60 out of 73 constituencies, and was confident that the remaining seats would be completed soon. 'We don't have a system where candidates lobby at the last minute. Once someone is selected, that's it – there will be no changing or lobbying anymore,' he said during the party's Aidilfitri open house event held in Sandakan recently. Michel said this approach would distinguish PIS from other parties, where lobbying and last-minute changes often disrupted election plans and undermined trust. He said early announcements would give candidates more time to serve the people on the ground, rather than focusing on internal politics. PIS has also pledged to ensure that at least a portion of its candidates are women and from a diverse range of age groups. 'We have already identified four women candidates for now,' he said. Michel added that age would not be a barrier for candidates, as the party believed that both experienced and young leaders could offer valuable contributions. 'What matters is not whether a candidate is young or old, but whether they are healthy, ready to serve, and have a mission to truly help the people,' he said. He reiterated that PIS would not be forming any political alliances, adding that coalitions often led to leadership struggles and slow decision-making. 'Too many heads result in too many ideas and delays. We want a government where decisions are made today and implemented tomorrow,' he said. PIS, officially registered in December 2023, announced its intention to contest all 73 state seats during its first annual general meeting in December 2024.

Parti Impian Sabah to contest in all 73 state seats

Published on: Tuesday, April 29, 2025 Published on: Tue, Apr 29, 2025 By: Mardinah Jikur Text Size: Michel also said that 30 per cent of the candidates would be women. SANDAKAN: Parti Impian Sabah (PIS) will field candidates in all 73 state seats in the coming 17th State Election (PRN17). Its President Michel Alok said 60 divisions are already prepared, with the remaining divisions also set to introduce their candidates. He said that stand is to move solo and not make any coalition with others. 'However, after the PRN, if a coalition is needed, it will be considered carefully, as any coalition should benefit the people of Sabah who want change, while also allowing the State to make its own decisions for development without outside involvement,' he said at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering organised by PIS Islamic Affairs at Jmiela Event Hall, here, on Sunday. Also present were the party leadership at the state and divisional levels. Michel also said that 30 per cent of the candidates would be women. 'So far, four candidates have been identified, alongside young and veteran candidates who are seen to have strong leadership potential,' he said. Regarding the state-level Hari Raya celebration, he said the event served as a platform for party members to meet and celebrate the festival together, rather than only at the divisional level. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Brazil to offer tax breaks to lure data center investments, sources say

By Marcela Ayres BRASILIA (Reuters) -Brazilian Finance Minister Fernando Haddad will begin a trip to Silicon Valley this week with a plan to lure data centers to his country by exempting the related technology investments from federal taxes, four sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. Haddad's trip to California on Friday includes a May 6 breakfast with tech executives in Palo Alto, where he will pitch Brazil as a sustainable infrastructure hub, leveraging the country's abundant supply of renewable energy. Speaking at an event hosted by conglomerate J. Safra in Sao Paulo, Haddad confirmed the trip and said Brazil could leverage its clean energy potential to attract investment and build data centers, adding that the new policy would help boost capital inflows. The Finance Ministry estimates the new policy could unlock some 2 trillion reais ($352 billion) in investments over the next decade, including the spillover into construction, telecoms and AI-related services, according to two of the sources, who requested anonymity in order to discuss the private plans. The Finance Ministry did not respond to a request for comment. The same sources said the planned data center investment by ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, would also be a beneficiary of the plan, an executive order that will require congressional approval to be made permanent. The policy will exempt key federal taxes - PIS, Cofins, IPI, and import duties - on IT-related capital expenditures for data centers, the two sources said. One of them stressed that the main cost for such ventures is not electricity - which in Brazil is largely sourced from renewable energy, with more than 80% coming from hydro, solar, and wind power - but rather hardware depreciation, a significant burden due to the country's complex and costly tax system. Non-IT investments, such as building construction, will not be exempt under the measure. As a result, the policy is expected to yield fiscal gains that will support, rather than strain, Brazil's federal budget from next year. Amid rising global trade tensions, including U.S. tariffs and tensions with China, the plan aims to capitalize on Brazil's diplomatic openness as a selling point for foreign investments. "We don't pick fights. We're friends with everyone. That means Brazil can serve the world without major hurdles," one of the sources said. A landmark tax reform approved under President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva last year provides for exemptions on capital spending, but they are set to take effect only in 2033. The new measure, led by the ministries of development and finance, aims to fast-track these benefits to encourage green data center investments. To qualify, projects must meet sustainability criteria, including using 100% renewable energy. Additional conditions will require projects to reserve a significant portion of capacity for domestic use, even if intended for export, and contribute to a fund supporting Brazil's AI ecosystem.
