Indian superstar Ajith back in the groove with 'Good, Bad, Ugly' as Malaysian fans celebrate his success and birthday in grand style
Indian superstar Ajith, the 'Thala' (the leader) for his fans, is back in the high life.
After slowing down at the box office over the last few years and poor reception of 'Vidaamuyarchi', his first movie of the year, Ajith has this time hit gold with his latest release 'Good, Bad, Ugly'.
Director Adhik Ravichandran's highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025 has been on a successful streak. 'Good Bad Ugly', which has completed over three weeks in theatres. It has now become Ajith Kumar's #1 film in Tamil Nadu, a record broken after six long years.
While early summer was filled with heavy-hitting releases, the Tamil flick 'Good Bad Ugly' proved that entertainment with an edge still rules.
Tamil star Ajith Kumar's action film, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, wrapped up its theatrical run with a solid worldwide gross of almost Rs250 crores (RM155 million), firmly establishing itself as one of the biggest Tamil hits of 2025.
'Good Bad Ugly' tells the story of AK, a former ruthless crime boss known as Red Dragon, who tries to leave his violent past behind and live peacefully with his family. However, his past continues to haunt him when his son Vihaan is falsely accused and targeted by a dangerous gang.
The movie also features Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, Rahul Dev, Yogi Babu, Priya Prakash Varrier, Tinnu Anand, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Varma, and Sayaji Shinde.
PInkVilla reported that 'Good, Bad, Ugly' blends chaos with style. Ajith's powerful presence drives the narrative, but the supporting cast also elevates the film. Arjun Das' double role as the antagonist impressed audiences in a big way.
Telugu actor Sunil, in a refreshing friend role, added just the right amount of comic relief. Trisha Krishnan brought quiet strength, while Priya Prakash Varrier's negative role generated serious online buzz.
Unlike the intense, straight-laced storytelling often seen in popular director Lokesh Kanagaraj's brand of action cinema, PinkVilla said Good, Bad, Ugly dared to be messy and mad. The storytelling wasn't always conventional, but that worked in the film's favour. Especially for a summer audience seeking thrills and fun, this Ajith starrer was a true treat.
As like many other Ajith's hits, the current trend setter movie in Tamil cinema has won over many fans. Although the storyline is not new though, Ajith together with his supporting cast has made the movie a memorable watch.
The Kollywood movie, which was released in theatres only in Tamil and Telugu, will also be available on the OTT platform in Hindi and other regional languages on Thursday (May 8). The movie in Netflix can be seen in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam
