IIPE to introduce PhD for foreign students

Visakhapatnam: The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam, has decided to launch several new courses for the academic year 2025–26. The institute will introduce BTech in mathematics and computing and , thus, broadening its interdisciplinary approach towards energy studies. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Alongside these new courses, IIPE is introducing a global internship programme that offers research and internship opportunities to foreign students, with the institute covering 75% of the total expenses while the remaining 25% would be borne by the students. Moreover, the institute will initiate a postdoctoral fellowship programme to support young researchers in STEM fields. Complementing these initiatives, IIPE will also open a PhD programme specifically for foreign nationals. Prof PK Banik, president of the board of governors at IIPE, told TOI that the new postdoctoral programme is fundamentally a highlevel research initiative designed to drive innovation. "Enrolled candidates will engage in advanced projects with the expectation that their work will yield new knowledge, patents and publications in international journals. Beyond producing elite researchers in energy and petroleum domains, the programme is also intended to nurture future faculty and industry leaders. Equally important is our initiative to welcome PhD candidates from abroad. While the programme is based in India, we recognise the immense value brought by international scholars who have pursued diverse academic paths. IIPE director Prof Shalivahan Srivastava said that the institute is already offering a two-month summer internship programme for Indian students. "In the parallel, we are now launching a global internship initiative designed for international applicants. Initially, about two students will be selected for this programme, and as the process matures, we expect to extend opportunities to about four to five top-tier candidates in future cycles. This dual approach, domestic and international, ensures that our ecosystem benefits from diverse insights and robust academic collaboration," the IIPE director added.
