PKR satisfied with election audit results, says Fuziah

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR's Central Leadership Council is satisfied with the results of its division-level elections following an audit, says party secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh. She said the council met on Sunday (May 4) evening after receiving a presentation from the party's election committee and reports from an international digital auditor "The international digital auditor confirmed the 2025 election results at the Branch Committee, Women's branch, and Youth Branch levels for all 220 PKR branches." "The final results for the 2025 branch-level elections will be published starting today," she said in a statement on Monday (May 5). On Saturday (May 3), PKR Party Election Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the audit report on alleged irregularities in the recent PKR divisional elections was expected within days. Zaliha said the independent auditors appointed by the party had monitored the election process and were given full access to documents for verification. Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reportedly said external auditors were appointed following concerns over how the polls were conducted. He, however, dismissed concerns that the party's upcoming leadership elections would be unfair, despite complaints over the recent branch-level results. He said that complaints did not automatically indicate unfairness in the process. On April 25, PKR's Party Election Committee confirmed it was reviewing multiple appeals related to the division-level polls. Meanwhile, on a separate note, Fuziah said around 10,000 delegates are expected to attend PKR's annual congress from May 22 to 24. "They will vote in person to elect members of the Central Leadership Council, while over 20,000 delegates will cast their votes for central leadership posts online." "Preparations are being made for the annual congress for the year 2024 and 2025, which will be held on May 22, 23, and 24 at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru." "Based on our representation system, defeated division chief candidates are still eligible to send delegates to the congress in proportion to the percentage of votes they received at the divisional-level polls." "The principle that winners do not win everything and losers do not lose it all will further invigorate the democratic process in the 2025 elections during this Congress," she said. Fuziah said there would be a nationwide pre-congress roadshow, including in Sabah and Sarawak, to ensure delegates receive accurate and comprehensive information to be fully prepared for the congress. "The roadshow will provide a platform for all Central Leadership Council candidates to meet and introduce themselves to the delegates," she said.

[UPDATED] Postponed leadership poll nominations unrelated to Rafizi, says PKR's Zaliha

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has dismissed any suggestion that its decision to postpone nominations for the central leadership elections is linked to Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli taking leave. PKR Party Election Committee chairperson Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the delay was solely due to ongoing preparations for the party's national congress in May. "Of course, it has nothing to do (with the Economy Minister taking leave). "As the prime minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) said, taking leave is a normal thing for anyone," she said. She made these remarks during a press conference after officiating the Residensi Kecapi in Sentul earlier today. Dr Zaliha, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), said the party needed more time to make final preparations in light of recent amendments to the party constitution. "We are in the process of refining preparations for the upcoming congress in May. With the new constitutional amendments, there are additional requirements that we need to meet. "For example, the delegates' list and other related matters. The new system now considers the percentage of votes secured by each candidate, be it for the AMK chief, the women's chief, or others. "So we need more time to ensure everything is in order, and we are working closely with the office of the secretary-general." Commenting on party members' reaction to the postponement, Dr Zaliha said it had been well received. "It was a decision by the central committee, so it is well accepted by the members," she said. Yesterday, Dr Zaliha, in a statement, announced that the central-level party election nominations, originally scheduled for today and Sunday, had been moved to next Thursday and Friday. "The committee has decided to postpone the central-level nomination process for the 2025 party elections, which was initially scheduled for May 3 and 4. (tomorrow and Sunday). "The new dates for the central-level nominations will be from midnight on May 8 to 11.59pm on May 9, 2025," she said in the statement. She added that the process would be conducted entirely online.

International auditors to examine alleged PKR poll irregularities, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: International auditors have been appointed to investigate complaints of possible irregularities in the recently concluded PKR divisional polls, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. "Why do you think it's not just? Because there's a complaint, then it's not just? Very prejudicial," the Prime Minister, who is also the PKR President, said. "Just because somebody complains, it's not just? No. If there's a complaint, we take it up. Now international auditors are checking in case there's any validity. The question should be reasonable and not prejudicial," he told reporters at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rumah Belia Madani and Rumah Mampu Milik Mukim Batu on Tuesday (April 29). Several top candidates contesting in the party elections said they had submitted appeals to the election committee due to concerns about the transparency of the results and the voting process. Earlier, PKR Party Election Committee chairperson Dr Zaliha Mustafa said complaints on the polls should be lodged through official channels for appropriate action. She said complaints submitted would be reviewed by the Objections and Complaints Committee. She also announced fresh elections for four divisions: Jempol, Selayang, Silam, and Semporna, which will be held on May 1. Several prominent figures, including ministers and MPs, lost in their respective divisions. Among those who failed to retain or win posts were Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who lost the Setiawangsa division chief post; Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim, who lost the contest for the Hang Tuah Jaya division deputy chief; Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew, who lost the Kota Kinabalu division chief post; and Deputy National Unity Minister K. Saraswathy, who lost the Bukit Bintang division chief contest. Also defeated were Batu MP P. Prabakaran, Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan, Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, and Sungai Siput MP S. Kesavan in their respective divisions.

PKR Members Urged To Lodge Election Complaints Through Official Channels

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- PKR members have once again been advised to lodge complaints regarding misconduct in the party's 2025 elections only through official channels to enable appropriate action to be taken. PKR Party Election Committee (JPP) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said complaints submitted would be reviewed by the JPP 2025 Objections and Complaints Committee. 'Only by doing so can we take the necessary action. If there are no formal complaints or objections, we cannot review them because every complaint and objection must be submitted with evidence,' she told reporters after the 2025 Semarak Aidilfitri Gathering with Media Partners held here tonight.
