Union min Tamta inspects key infra projects in Mizoram
Aizawl: Union minister of state for road transport and highways Ajay Tamta conducted a detailed assessment of infrastructure projects and public amenities in Mizoram during his recent state visit. The minister inspected the ongoing construction of a 100-metre arch bridge over the Tlawng River along the Aizawl-Lengpui airport route and NH-108 connecting Aizawl with Mamit district. He reviewed the progress with contractors and PWD officials, setting a completion deadline of Sept 2025. During his visit to the upcoming Sairang railway station site, he stressed the importance of rapid implementation to enhance regional transport links. At the planned Aizawl bypass location, Virender Jakhar, ED (Projects), RO Aizawl, provided a thorough presentation on the project's layout and essential features, designed to reduce traffic and improve urban movement. The western bypass construction is funded through PM-DevINE. Additionally, Rs 6,400 crore has been allocated for upcoming NHIDCL projects. Financial inclusion shows progress with 4 lakh Jan Dhan accounts, 53% held by women. PM Mudra Yojana has distributed Rs. 2,635 crore to 1.58 lakh beneficiaries, primarily SC/ST and women. PM SVANidhi supports 2,500 street vendors, with 8.8 lakh people covered under social security schemes. Economic growth continues through the Rs. 10,037 crore UNNATI 2024 scheme and increased tax allocation of Rs. 7,112 crore for 2025-26. Tourism receives Rs. 200 crore under Swadesh Darshan and PRASAD. Youth engagement occurs through Paryatan Mitra and Apna Radio 90.0 FM. Mizoram's development demonstrates the government's dedication to balanced regional growth. With central support, the state advances towards enhanced connectivity and prosperity.

IICA to establish first regional campus in northeast, advancing corporate governance and development
New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): The Shillong campus, an investment under the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for Northeast (PM-DevINE), will operate as a regional hub for specialised training, research, and policy advisory across key domains, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. In a landmark step toward inclusive national growth and regional capacity building, the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, formally acquired a five-acre land parcel in New Shillong Township, Meghalaya, for its first-ever regional campus. This initiative marks a significant expansion of IICA's footprint into the North East, reinforcing its commitment to corporate governance excellence and sustainable development. In an official statement, the land-transfer ceremony was presided by Donald Phillips Wahlang, Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya and Ms. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General and CEO of IICA, Inderdeep Singh Dhariwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, C.V.D. Diengdoh, Commissioner & Secretary, Planning Department, (Col.) Amandeep Singh Puri IICA among other senior officials were also present. The land handover and takeover were undertaken by K. Hynniewta, Joint Secretary, Planning Department from the Government of Meghalaya and Sh. Shekhar Srivastava, Deputy Secretary from the Government of India. Applauding the vision, the Chief Secretary expressed Meghalaya's commitment to knowledge-led growth and highlighted the strategic location of the IICA campus within the Knowledge City cluster. The area already houses esteemed institutions like IIM Shillong, National Law University Meghalaya, and NIFT--promising rich academic and professional synergy. He also informed that a new airport is soon to be developed in Shillong, which will significantly enhance regional connectivity and make the campus easily accessible to professionals, faculty, and students from across India. This infrastructural development will further reinforce Shillong's emerging status as a major academic and policy hub in the Northeast. Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, DG and CEO, IICA, hailed the moment as historic, describing the Shillong campus as 'our first baby outside Delhi--a symbol of decentralisation and empowerment.' He emphasized the role of the new campus in supporting entrepreneurship, capacity building, and good governance in alignment with national priorities such as Ease of Doing Business, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Vikshit Bharat @ 2047. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision during the Rising North East initiatives, the DG noted that the Prime Minister has consistently championed the North East as the 'Ashtalakshmi of India'--a region rich in diversity, talent, and potential. In her address, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ms Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Congratulated and appreciated the proactive and generous support from the Meghalaya Government, stating that this partnership reflects the spirit of cooperative federalism and the Centre's vision of empowering the North-East as a growth engine for New India. According to an official statement, academic and advisory programmes are scheduled to begin within the current financial year, with construction work starting immediately. IICA has already served the NER through its prior training programmes that have benefitted over 300 professionals and continues to manage the Independent Director Databank, which includes representation from all Northeastern states. Going forward, IICA will foster collaborative programmes with state universities and institutions in the Knowledge City to deliver tailored training, policy support, and capacity-building initiatives that cater to the region's socio-economic aspirations. DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reviews ministry's work in Assam
Guwahati (Assam) [India], May 17 (ANI): Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting in Guwahati to review the schemes and programmes the Ministry is implementing in the region. The meeting was convened on Friday to assess the developmental activities undertaken by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) in Assam. According to an official statement, strategies to streamline supply chains in the Northeast through increased investments in infrastructure, energy, and overall development were discussed in detail. Notably, the DoNER Ministry is continuing its efforts under five core areas to implement Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for the transformation of the 'Ashtalakshmi states.' Accordingly, the meeting explored the potential of boosting muga silk production, palm oil and agarwood cultivation, promoting diverse tourism opportunities, and especially developing border villages. The DoNER Ministry presented an overview of Assam's recent progress across various sectors such as health, education, roads, agriculture and food processing, tourism, handloom, handicrafts and textiles, and the energy sector. The meeting also covered the progress of schemes like PM-DevINE and initiatives of the North Eastern Council (NEC) being implemented in the state. The ministry noted that Assam has secured a leading position in the SDG India Index 2023-24. Short-term, mid-term, and long-term planning strategies were also discussed to accelerate the state's current momentum further. Following the presentation, CM Sarma stated that Assam is now capable of competing with the developed states of India. The Chief Minister mentioned the consistent growth of the state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), saying Assam currently has a GDP growth rate of 14 per cent and if this pace continues, the state's GDP is expected to reach Rs 10 lakh crore in the coming years. In a post on X, CM Sarma highlighted that a roadmap was discussed to streamline supply chains in the North East through more investments in infrastructure, power and last-mile linkages. 'The Ministry is working on a five-point Framework to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of transforming our Ashtalakshmi States. Accordingly, today we agreed to collaborate closely on unleashing Assam's potential in Muga Silk production, Palm Oil and Agarwood Cultivation, Diverse tourism opportunities and Transforming border villages into Vibrant Villages,' he said. The Chief Minister further remarked that ongoing developmental projects in the state have significantly increased energy demand. He noted that by the year 2032, the state would require an additional 4,000 MW of power. 'The state government has already taken necessary steps to address this future demand,' CM Sarma added. CM Himanta emphasised that every rupee allocated by the DoNER Ministry for various projects is being spent in a manner that directly benefits the public and expressed his gratitude to Union Minister Scindia for continued support from the DoNER Ministry. On the other hand, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia commented that Assam is emerging as one of the leading states in the country. He assured that the DoNER Ministry will continue to provide all necessary assistance to accelerate the state's growth further.
