PM briefed on Higher Education Blueprint 2025–2035, says Zambry
TAPAH: A preliminary briefing on the Malaysia Education Blueprint (Higher Education) 2025–2035 [PPTM 2025–2035] has been presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ahead of its official launch later this year, says Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir.
He said that the draft of the blueprint, which is set to introduce a new dimension to the country's higher education landscape, was previously handed over to him by the committee established by the Higher Education Ministry.
"A preliminary briefing has already been given to the prime minister. We are now awaiting the appropriate time to launch it this year," he told reporters after attending the KPT@Tapah Outreach Programme here today.
Zambry had previously said that the ministry was in the final stages of completing the PPTM 2025–2035, as the current blueprint is due to conclude later this year.
Meanwhile, Zambry urged Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers who were not offered a place at higher education institutions not to lose hope and to consider alternative, skills-based pathways.
"The education system and structure today have evolved. It is no longer limited to just university pathways. Learning opportunities are now more diverse and not confined solely to academic institutions.
"Under the government, we have restructured the system to place equal emphasis on technical and vocational fields alongside academic disciplines," he said.
He assured that high-achieving SPM candidates would not be left behind, as the ministry is committed to providing support through various assistance schemes.
These include financial aid for foundation studies at public universities, support for students with disabilities, and assistance for those enrolled in polytechnics and community colleges.
The results of the 2024 SPM examination are scheduled to be released on Thursday.
