ADELAIDE, Australia — Patrick Reed picked a good time and place to hit a hole-in-one during the first round of the LIV Golf's Adelaide tournament at The Grange. Reed's ace at the par-3 12th — the so-called 'Watering Hole' — came just 15 minutes into Friday's opening round of the three-round, shotgun-start tournament. The 34-year-old Reed's ace was just the sixth tee shot at the hole Friday. @PReedGolf ACE ON THE WATERING HOLE!Watch LIVE now on the @foxsports App #LIVGolfAdelaide @4AcesGC_ — LIV Golf (@livgolf_league) February 14, 2025 Reed, the 2018 Masters champion, was immediately showered with drinks thrown by massive crowds lining the hole. Up to 100,000 spectators were expected for the Adelaide tournament in one of the most well-attended events on the LIV Tour. Reed's ace was just the second at the hole in LIV Golf's four years of staging a tournament in Adelaide, following Chase Koepka's hole-in-one on the 12th in 2023. The hole-in-one was one of the few highlights for Reed on Friday. He shot a 1-over 73 with two birdies and five bogeys to add to his ace and was seven shots behind first-round leader Sam Horsfield, an Englishman who shot a bogey-free 66. 'Besides that one hole, it was ugly,' Reed said. 'The crazy thing was the adrenalin afterwards. I was shaking going back to the tee and just couldn't kind of calm down and settle into the round after that point.'

Patrick Reed hits hole-in-one on famed party hole at LIV Golf Adelaide

American Patrick Reed has sparked wild scenes and been showered in drinks after sinking a hole-in-one during the first round of the LIV Golf event in Adelaide. The former US Masters champion aced the famous watering hole on just his second hole of the day as the tournament got off to a raucous start at Grange Golf Club on Friday. Chase Koepka hit a hole-in-one on the same par three in 2023, sparking a frenzy in the packed grandstands that became an iconic moment in the debut event. Reed became just the second golfer to hit an ace at LIV Golf Adelaide less than 15 minutes into play on the opening day of the tournament as plastic cups rained down. The 34-year-old sealed the feat with just the sixth tee shot of the day at the hole after starting with a bogey on the par-five 11th. LIV Golf uses a shotgun start with all players teeing off at the same time on various holes around the course. Reed threw his hands in the air and soaked up the cheers and applause before racing down to the green to collect his ball. 🚨 @PReedGolf ACE ON THE WATERING HOLE!Watch LIVE now on the @foxsports App 📺#LIVGolfAdelaide @4AcesGC_ Reed is one under after eight holes, two shots behind the early leaders, fellow American Andy Ogletree and Mexican Carlos Ortiz. 'To be honest, all we have tried to do the last four or five weeks is really just prepare as good as we can and get in and get our work done and tick a lot of boxes and get here on Friday and just let it all go. 'We know we're going to have the support of the home crowd. We love the golf course, I think this is the best I've ever seen it, hopefully it gets firmer and faster. We know we've done the work, so why not two in a row?' Smith said before play started that the Adelaide tournament remained the benchmark for the LIV Golf circuit. 'I think this is our bar, I really do, as a league,' he said.
