2 men accused of driving around Polk County, firing shots out of pickup truck

EAGLE LAKE, Fla. (WFLA) — Two men were arrested over the weekend for firing guns out of a pickup truck, carrying two minors, around Polk County, the sheriff's office said. Around 3:23 a.m. on Sunday, Polk County deputies were dispatched to Eagle Lake for reports of someone shooting out of a vehicle. Lindsay Lohan's father, Michael Lohan, arrested in Florida According to officials, four people left a home in the Eagle Hammock neighborhood off of Eagle Lake Loop Road in a black Ford F-150. A single gunshot was fired. The pickup truck then stopped at the boat ramp at Lake McCloud and someone fired several more shots into the lake. Deputies said the F-150 traveled to a RaceTrac, located north of Eagle Lake at US-17 and SR-540. A Crime Information Center Operator and a Crime Analyst with PCSO, who happened to be in the gas station, observed the truck driver intentionally squealing their tires and logged their tag number to call in reckless behavior. As the truck was leaving, a single gunshot was fired out of the vehicle's window. The truck driver made another stop at a Circle K gas station, located on SR-540 and Spirit Lake, where another gunshot was fired. Body found in Weedon Preserve identified as missing St. Pete teen Soon after, deputies spotted the F-150 and pulled the driver over at the RaceTrac on SR-540 and Thornhill Road. All four individuals in the truck were detained. Two of the passengers, who were juveniles, were released to their parents and will not be charged. The two adults, who were also determined to be the ones firing the guns, were identified as 21-year-old Evan Thompson, of Bartow, and 22-year-old Devon Mailhot, of Eagle Lake. Deputies seized two firearms from the F-150— a PSA Dagger 9mm and a S&W Shield 9mm, which was reported stolen in 2023 out of Hernando County. Thompson and Mailhot were both arrested and charged with two counts of discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person. This remains an ongoing investigation.
